Default 2011 Lexus IS 350 - Steering Telescope Not Working

Hi everyone,

My 2011 IS 350 steering wheel goes up and down but no longer telescopes (front/back). I can hear the motor working but when I start the car and it wants to set in position, but it doesn't move.

I removed the one screw on the bottom steering column cover, but can't seem to remove it the cover. It's snapped it very tight and even though I got one of the clips out with my plastic trim removal tool, I can't seem to remove the rest and then remove the cover. Of course, I'm afraid I might snap the whole thing too. :-(

YouTube has some videos on this repair for various Lexus models, but none that show exactly how to remove the plastic column cover in order to get to the motor and gears, which I believe is the issue.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

FYI that's two different motors that control those functions. Found this column cover on Ebay:

Good to know. I'm hoping it's just the gear wheel that's gone off alignment, which is what most of the YouTube videos I've seen indicate.

My problem is I'm not exactly clear on how to remove the bottom steering column cover for fear of breaking the small plastic clips that hold it in place.

Thanks Protholl!

It's a different model but here is a Lexus specialist removing the column cover from an LS430. Fast forward to 28:32 for that section. He shows what he did to split top from bottom after removing screws. Oh and you probably know this but if you are going to remove the steering wheel disconnect the battery first.
