Default Sell Lexus for Porsche Cayenne??

I took in a 2016 Porsche Cayenne V6 base trade in at the car dealer I work at, took it in for cheap. Its clean condition, 61000 miles, but does have structural damage on carfax and can see the repaint on passenger rear door.

Im tempted to get it, my Lexus is in good condition but has 255K miles and Ive been wanting something nicer newer. BUT what Im worried about are the maintenance/repairs costs on a Cayenne which I know will be very high$$$, I might get an extended warranty (also expensive)but after warranty expires Im on my own!!

There are people with reliable Cayennes. There are times you can address a car's weak points in advance (ie: for DI IS250, we will clean intakes or get walnut blasting).

If you like driving the Porsche or prefer the overall utility of a CUV, then its an easy decision. The other day I had to pick up a shelf and was glad to have my hatchback instead of the IS250 without rear folding seats.

You have to do everything to inspect the car in-advance and see if it needs anything in the near-future. Anything can fail on any car at anytime, even Toyota/Lexus. If your financial situation lets you change cars, go for it. If you're saving for a house or kids education or whatever, then its a different calculation.

Cayennes and Panameras drive very nice but have low reliability. If you work for a dealer maybe you can pay reasonable prices for repairs after warranty expires or sell the car. Anyway, even a cayenne at 60k miles would probably has less repairs than keeping the 250k 18 years old Lexus.

That is a lot of money. I assume the extended warranty company has calculated the cost of repairs based on claims of similar cars and adds a small percentage for profit. So expect to pay $10000 to $12000 in the next 3 years for repairs on average if you do not get a warranty.

Maybe a 2016 RX350 could be a better choice as far as potential repairs. Performance and image might be reduced but you will enjoy a mostly trouble free ownership.

i always thought Porsche was the highest in reliability. Is that only for the 911 Carreras?

was this the base cayenne model? How much was too much if you don’t mind me asking? I may be in a similar position in the near future and would save me some time if I were to know your anecdote

Is your is a 250 or a 350? Have you thought of doing an engine swap with a corvette crate engine?

Check out the Acura RDX and also their sedan lineup.

I mention the RDX because you were looking at cross-overs. It is AWD, the system is flawless, the engine is a detuned Type R, and overall is a nice solid vehicle.
Way more reliable than the Cayenne, with similar durability as Lexus, maybe a little more cautious with maintenance due to the engine being turbocharged.

I test drove a Macan GTS, it sure was nice.

Dealer took in for $9000 base Cayenne, my cost would have been about $11-13K plus warranty $15K and tax lic so OTD $30K not worth it plus has bad carfax structural damage

Before I got my IS250 I owned Corollas, Civics and a RAV4. The cost of living essentially exploded during the last three years and Canada can only sell electric cars (new) in 2035. So my low-mileage IS250 is my last dance with gasoline.

Any car with a branded title has limited resale.

People are talking electric and hybrids up, but IDK. Something about them isn't nearly as engaging as the Toyota of old.
