Default Fix for AUX port that cannot be selected as audio source

My ‘07 IS 250AWD AUX port started malfunctioning, where pressing DISC/AUX button would no longer detect presence of AUX input with audio cable plugged in. Juggling the connection sometimes would cause detection to work briefly. If your stereo sound was otherwise working fine till that point, issue might be caused by broken ‘plug inserted detection’ function which happens if certain pins no longer connect in the 3.5 mm socket.

If you want to replace or repair the part, watch Jedi Luke 22 video at

If you have a soldering iron, you can likely repair broken ‘plug inserted detection’ function specifically on Lexus part 86190-53020 by shorting soldering points under socket labeled #8 and #9. This changes resistance between detection pin #4 and ground pin #3 from 14K to 3K Ohm and makes it to function as ‘device is always plugged in’.

Scion part seems to use different socket model, so pins might differ, but detection principal is likely going to be the same. Good luck!
