Default NAV gets stuck "calculating" on the highway

Bought my 2010 IS 250C in early May - car has been great, but had a strange navigation issue occur yesterday.
On the highway, the screen splits to show car/roads on left half ,and supposed to show the time/distance to upcoming exits.
However, on the right half, it just says "calculating" and it never got anywhere. Not a real big deal, but pushing any of the other buttons like climate or audio or setup (for example), I'd hear the beep and then a long delay before the screen would load. So, it seemed that the nav getting hung up on "calculating" was taking large amounts of system resources. When I got off the highway, screen went full and everything was fine.
I'd really like to turn off the split screen feature, but not sure how or if it's possible. I've attached a picture, and much appreciate any advice or feedback.
Thanks!

The car uses ABS data (vehicle speed info) and GPS data. Any CEL codes or trac, VDIM issues? Also, where is the GPS antenna on a C? And with the roof stored, where is it then?

You can test GPS signal strength by place Nav screen into diagnostic mode.

Do you have the 769 page nav handbook? It has the screen options in there, but spend some more time, its easy to turn off split screen.

Also, is there any chance the road and/or exits have moved since your nav software was released? I have one area where the built a new highway and bridge over water (2016) and my Nav shows I'm in the drink roaming through the woods.

But I can see highways being moved slightly could screw with maps written 10+ years ago and have the nav system calculating...

See if it only does it at certain places or all the time?

Thanks for the info, 2013FSport. Interesting regarding the GPS antenna on a C. If it's the shark fin, it sits on the metal frame on top of the windshield, which means roof up or down is not in the way.
Issue happened 2x yesterday and 1x today - and the roof was up for all of them. Will have to do an experiment when it's not so blazing hot out!
I do have the manual, and found a workaround: when the NAV goes into Freeway mode, hit the Screen Configuration button and then Single Map mode. Takes a bit, but no way to proactively turn off Freeway mode.

Oh, and no codes at all. I do have an OBD2 reader. Will hook it up and see....
