About a year ago I noticed my engine making a strange sound that’s hard to make out. It would make the sound and go away after restarting, did it once every few months. Now it seems to be doing it more often and have no idea where to start or what the sound is? If anyone has some ideas or hints lmk, maybe I’m just tripping and some of y’all’s cars make the same sound. Tbh it sounds rough and I know I’m due for an oil change. Oops 😭🤷♂️👨🦯

I'm not sure but it does sound like at least the high pressure fuel pump is part of it. Is there any coolant weeping out from behind the water pump pulley?

I put in a new water pump a few months ago, along with thermostat, and etc. It has a new aem high pressure fuel pump so that I can run e85 and that was installed like half a year ago or so. So I doubt that’s the issue. Unless there’s another fuel pump near the engine area? But no coolant leaking, only leaks out of the overflow tank but it’s a common issue.

Did you replace the idler pulleys when you did the water pump? Was it an OEM water pump or a Gates/something else?

No I didn’t replace them since they felt and looked good and the previous owner had already replaced the water pump (didn’t know) but I decided to change it since it was already taken apart. It was replaced with an aisin water pump which is oem equivalent.

Sounds good. Those three things I brought up were the first thing I'd look for. Maybe others can chime in. GL!
