Default 2008 is350 Rack and Pinion problems and P/S light

2008 is350 191k miles

Steering was fine until recently there have been some floods in florida and went through some deep water.

When I start the car the P/S light turns on and steering is hard. Turn off the car turn on it resets and light goes away. This was going on for about 2 weeks.

Today I start the car and no light but steering rock solid not moving, turned off the car start again and was fine.

While driving, noise coming from steering column and feels loose not direct. Scared to drive at this point, not much on forums as far as is250 and is350 rack and pinion replacements, I doubt it’s the module at this point feels more mechanical.

If anyone could help out direct me the right way I would appreciate.

The rack is about the lowest electrical part on the car and its not meant to be submerged. If there is hint of tear in a boot (2X), it likely took on water.
I'd take it in to shop and have both boots removed and see if water comes out. If nothing, new clamps and disconnect and clean all electrical connections to the rack. Shouldnt take but 30 min. Likely bill an hour though. Also, inspect U-joints along steering shaft and column. The one at the rack could have taken on water and is failing from age and recent change in lubricant (h2o).

Explain - are you saying the steering lock on the column is being strange.

you might be right I think it took in water, it was during florida floods, probably made it’s way inside. When I started the car was rock solid steering wheel, didn’t even move.
