Guys,
What's up with the different transmission types for the new IS. I haven't read anywhere that manual transmission will be available. What is the deal ???

In this review, they mentioned driving a paddle-fitted 6 sequential manual... I kinda assumed it was an automated clutch system like SMG, but I could be wrong.

Basically, it is an automatic with torque convertor only with paddle shift control just like everyone elses manumatic, or steptronic, or sports shift automatic. Technically they all are seqential, but in this case it is kind of misleading since generally in the automotive world when we hear sequential, it is assumed clutchless manual like the F1 or SMG and similar transsmissions. For Toyota/Lexus, I believe their sequential manual is called SMT for Sequential Manual Transmissionn.

Ahh, so true, but we are not the vast majority here are we

I would get a true manual, but my compromise is my wife needs to be able to drive the car now that we have our son. Before it wouldn't matter too much if the only car left home was my manual cars and she needed to go out. Now, with the kid she needs to be able to drive all our cars in case of emergincy. I tried teaching her to drive a manual but it just wont work out. SMG is the best compromise for me. With that said, I would still by the autoamticc IS350 if that is all they had, but it won't stop me from wishing, and it becomes a really touch decision when the BMW E90 coupe comes out and offers SMG. I'm a coupe fan and a manual fan, so I may end up going the other way. I just figur with all this talk about the IS being the 3 seires competitor it would matched it in the one area that BMW excells at.
