If you spend over 40K on the car why whould you care about gas?
IS350
10K a year / 25m/g =400g
400g * 3$/g = $1200
GS430
10K a year / 20m/g=500g
500g * 3$/g=$1500
We are talking about $300 difference a year in gas but you get a bigger car with more
torque. I am more interested in price difference between fully loaded GS430 / IS350 and
in specs for gs450

The IS350 will definitely kill a GS430 at any speed.
If you want to compare power ratings, the IS350 is rated at 306/275 under the NEW rating standard. The GS430 was downgraded to 288hp under the new rating standard.
So it's not just 6 horsepower, it's 18hp. There's still the difference in torque, but the weight difference should definitely make up for that.
I think it's a no-brainer that the IS350 will be the fastest lexus made to date at any speed. Of course once the GS460 comes out that could change, but then again if an IS460/IS500 comes out that would change everything yet again.

I don't know why you guys talking about how fast its going to be and if it will be faster then
gs430 or how much gas its using. The name of the thread was which would you pick?
IS350 or GS430 considering their price
If there is going to be only 5K difference for a fully loadded IS350 and GS430
I would definetely go with GS430. If its going to be 10K difference then I would go for IS350.
I might also weight for new GS4x specs.
I also don't really care if its fast or really fast; there are cars that are faster then
a lexus, easier to modify and cheaper. My modified GS400 is plenty fast and my
my modded eclipse was faster than a turbo porche and I still sold it. I baught my first lexus
because it has four doors, some what fast and plenty luxuries w/ built in navigation and
other cool gadgets.
I would not buy IS350 over GS430; unless their is a big price difference.

Everyone is ranting and raving about the New IS. Spec wise sure it's hot, but I think it's ugly. It looks like a mini GS with no A$$. To me it just looks incomplete. The GS is beautifully styled and you can turn off the VDIM LOL
GS all the way
GS all the way

don't forget, the 06 IS has more headroom than the 06 GS.
i've sat in both with moonroofs.
but if you prefer your hair rubbing the ceiling, then it's gs all the way.

So, how about we compare some numbers?
If there is less than only 2% difference (Coefficient of Variance; I'll finally put into use what I learned in my statistics classes) between the IS350 or the GS430, I will consider it insignificant and consider the measurements equal.
Comparison: IS350 vs. GS430
Horsepower: 306 vs. 300 hp = insignificant difference
Torque: 277 vs. 325 = advantage GS430
0-60 time: 5.6 sec vs. 5.7 sec = insignificant difference
Top speed: both electronically controlled 142 mph vs. 143 mhp = insignificant difference
Fuel Economy: 21/28 vs. 18/25 = advantage IS350
Fuel Tank Capacity: 17.17 gallons vs. 18.8 gallons = advantage GS430
(no moonroof measurements)
Front Headroom: 39 in. vs. 38.8 in. = insignificant difference
Front Legroom: 43.9 in. vs. 43.5 in. = insignificant difference
Front Shoulder-room: 54.4 in. vs. 56.3 in. = insignificant difference
Read Headroom: 36.9 in. vs. 37.0 in. = insignificant difference
Rear Legroom: 30.6 in. vs. 36.4 in. = advantage GS430; Now this is the biggest concern...
Rear Shoulder-room: 52.7 in. vs. 55.1 in. = advantage GS430
Trunk space: 13 cubic ft. vs. 12.7 cubic ft. = advantage IS350
Cost of completely loaded model: (estimate) 44K vs. 58K advantage IS350
Now, after looking at the numbers, I have realized that the significant difference between the two models is rear passenger room. It really depends on if you will be driving yourself or the family. It also depends if you are looking for value or class.
I am actually quite suprised that the IS has more front headroom, front legroom, and trunk space than the GS!!!
I will reiterate my earlier vote and definately go for the IS350!!!

Not trying to flame anyone but if you are seriously interested in these cars and not just playing teenage internet games, go drive them. I would be very surprised if either the IS or the GS loses sales to each other. Very similar to the Lexus - BMW ongoing nauseating debate. They are different vehicles. My guess is that someone that wants more sport will go for the IS, assuming everything else is right. If you go more for gentleman touring and the slightly bigger vehicle, it will be the GS. No reason why anyone here should take anyone's opinion over anyone elses but please, please, please, go drive them. My opinion is that your gut and your butt will tell you which one is right for you.

well dude, you are comparing front passangers only? :-). Obviously, point of buying larger sedan is because of the back seat and there should be quite an difference here.
as to the $300 per year difference, i believe it could be more if you drive around town more and plus since when was 300$ for 10k miles small? that means that for some 50k miles, difference will be 1,500 USD... quite nice actually.

There is actually less than 0.5% difference between the two, so there is insignificant difference between the two...
