Default Is the HP ratings for the IS250 SAE net, or using the old standard?

If is under the SAE net new ratings that might explain why some car magazines and websites keep stating a 220HP rating for the IS250 even as resent as teh Sep. issue of C&D. If it is 204hp SAE net that should translate to about 215-220hp under the old standard considering on the average a 10-13% drop. If so I think the IS250 is in line with the 215hp of the old IS300 and is more apealing, at least on my eyes.

I was going for the IS350 but if the IS250 feels powerfull enough and I might just save the few $$ and I'm hoping there is a big MPG diffrence to also warrant consideration. That also translate to extra options can be added for less.

We discussed this yesterday:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...0&postcount=35

This was also included in the press kit that was given to us:

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Horsepower Change
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) revised Standard J1349, which sets forth the protocol for testing horsepower and torque as of the first of this year. One purpose of the change was to try to achieve more consistent ratings throughout the industry. California requires that advertised horsepower claims be determined using the SAE Standard. The revision specifies that certain equipment be installed on the engine and operating at the time of testing, as well as the use of the manufacturer-required grade of fuel during the test. Presumably, all manufacturers will be using the revised Standard for future tests.
Lexus decided to retest most of its engines using the new protocol this year. Consequently, the horsepower and torque ratings for some of our vehicles declined this year. Any changes in horsepower and torque ratings based on the implementation of the new testing protocol, however, have no impact on actual engine performance.

Nice, that makes me feel better about the performance of the IS250 RWD 6 Speed auto. It should translate to about 220hp under the old standard or the oposite, the IS300 under the new standard should be about 195HP, there for keeps in line with IS300 HP ratings. If the performance of the IS250 RWD 6 Speed is on par or a bit better than the IS300 is replacing then I belive most of us would be just fine with it instead of spending more and go for the IS350, maybe get some extra options and save a bit on gas milage.

Um, how did you get this 195hp figure?

Also, I'm pretty sure the IS250 even using the old measurement has only 215hp. Not sure why C&D would quote 220hp though.

Is just based that Toyota and Honda Hp figures went down from 6-10% on average with the new standard and the stated HP figures of 220hp from C&D and other publications pehaps stating under old standard. and Initial specs of 325hp for the IS350 and 220hp for the IS250.

Just an educated guess, not exact. I like to see test data 0-60 from the IS250 RWD 6 Speed auto to compare to IS300.

Just added: the IS300 has 218tq vs IS250 so there might still be a diffrence.

p.s. just to explain something else - there was always an SAE standard, even J1349 was in effect last year. So someone saying that HP was tested via SAE net, means NOTHING. It does not mean that actual car was tested via SAE J1349 01/05 unless it specifically mentions that. I know there was speculation that BMW quoted figures already included new SAE methods, because their press release mentioned SAE which does not actually mean new SAE testing method. In fact, it would be pretty hard for them to test it via 01/05 revision when their HP was determined quite a bit before that...
