I hate to splash cold water on a hot fire but let's examine how feasible a 5.1 0-60 really is for a 300hp automatic.
if you look at HP vs Weight of the IS350, the Lexus 5.6 sounds much more likely. If the car can really do a 5.1 w/ an automatic, imagine would what happen with a 6spd? It would take off another 0.4-0.5 off which would put it in 4.6-4.7 range. That is FASTER than a 333hp E46 M3. And that not to bring up the fact BMW hp ratings are undervalued since they transmission and power to the wheels are much more efficient than japanese cars w/ the same HP rating at the crank.
In another words. 5.1 0-60 is not likely to hold up w/ consistent testing. Sorry for being a pessemist but it would almost seem as if Lexus would defy physics to get that kinda #.

We have facts and you are posting opinions.
I am glad BMW is so superior. I think all IS drivers should wave when they pass BMW drivers in their superior cars with super duper undervalued ratings.

either way.. the is350 beats the 330i in majority of the categories. unlike the incompetent editors/test drivers at c&d, i know how to comprehend and do math. i wasn't surprised that they rated bmw #1, cause that's how all their cars are rated.. even if they break down.

Plus, Hyundai has the best quality among Korean automakers. However that's not exactly a reason to throw celebration parties.

I just thought about it, this time SHOULD NOT be that hard to believe. They got a 6 seconds FLAT with this same engine with 26 less HP in the HEAVIER Avalon..
It makes sense now.

Impressive power comparison though, that extra 38 makes a huge difference, not to mention the 6 speed tranny

My slightly modded GS with the LSD rear, TC and valve body mod, has run a 5.2, 0 - 60 and it dynoed at 250 rwhp. I'm an engineer and work hard to make sure any data I post is consistent and reliable data. No need to defy physics here. The numbers are plausible.

the m3 ONLY has 333hp, but they do 4.6sec. tell me how

Yes, it is true that the M3 has 333hp, but isn't that with the old SAE ratings. If you adjust the M3 hp ratings to follow the new standard, then the hp gap between the IS350 and the M3 will be much smaller.

:-).
Not only that, BUT EVERYONE except US mags have bashed new 3.0i engine as slowest in the class. UK and German mags when doing comparos with C350 and even A4 3.2FSI called the engine dissapointing.

I do agree that the IS350 's performance does not defy physics.

New M3 should be brutal and straight out kill everything else in the same class. But at the same time, it is one class higher than IS350 and should not be compared to it. Maybe next ISh will have something to match its power...
