An independent third party (Ward's) tested the IS for Lexus, and clocked 5.3 seconds. Since Lexus paid them to do it, they'll accept their results.

Subscript states "AMCI-Certified acceleration testing, six-cylinder automatic sedans, Ward's Segmentation."

Sounds much better, doesn't it...

I'm sure I read on .net that another independent tester got 5.1 secs for 0-60.

Honestly, that means nothing to me. It's good to use as a comparison so I know where the vehicle stands but all I care about is being able to get ahead of some a**hole who is competing for a 2 lane to 1 hole shot.

I'm a crap driver so that sort of granularity doesnt do much for me. I just have a strong need to not be pushed around by people with more horsepower. What I need to know about this vehicle is that those people will be hard to find.

5.6 was a preliminary pre-production test. Lexus usually gets their official numbers through AMCI.

i honestly do not think there's much difference btw 5.1,5.3 or 5.6. I mean it's only 300ms and what difference can 300 ms makes?

but i like 5.1s much better

Hoestly, it makes a difference but not a huge difference in the real world. However, in public perception it is a gigantic difference. 5.6 sounds great. 5.3 sounds outstanding. 5.1 sounds incredible from a car in this class and even if that is the best time thus far, it will be used by enthusiasts for comparison purposes from now on. Being able to say my car did 5.1 when the C350 only does 5.5 is big for perception reasons. Back a few years ago the NSX was being called a slow car and it managed a best 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. The Corvette Z06 at the time was getting 0-60 in 4.5 and was being praised as very fast. So, when it comes to publuc perception that 0.3 seconds is huge. For me, it is not that big of a deal. I would have been happy with 0-60 in 6.0 seconds flat. Anything more is all a bonus

quick question: Would the sport package make the is350 faster or it will only improve handling?

Only improve handling. Only at speeds over 120mph or so, would the IS get any quicker (very marginal) due to it being lower to the ground
