I noticed the IS has about 13% markup over the invoice price. I believe this is one of the highest for japanese cars. In terms of purchasing cars at or below invoice, it is possible. When dealers sell cars at their "cost," they still make money. Toyota will still give them a rebate, say $500 for helping them push inventory. That's why MB or even BMW is willing to let go of their higher class cars for 1K under invoice price.
Ultimately, it's the law of supply and demand. If you have patience, you can get the IS for 500-1000 over invoice once demand dies down. Look at the 3 series, I can get it for $700 over invoice right now. Too bad the invoice price for a fully equipped 330i is still over 40K.
