.... I was very impressed today, 1/21/06, using my 2006 IS350 while driving through snow storm ranging between 3 to 6 inches in the mountains of Virginia. I purchased my IS new on 12/05 before many tire dealers even had the specs for the car on-line. Last winter I was unimpressed with the poor results of using all-season 18" Extreme Contact Radials. They proved satisfactory for rain and general use, but I got totally stuck in a 1" snow shower level ground!
I was determined to get the Blizzaks after reading some other posts by rear-wheel only drivers. This year, just as soon as winter began, I purchased 4 new Bridgestone Blizzaks (2x 225/40R18 and 2x 255/40R18) for my IS350 and after driving nearly 120 miles today in a driving snow storm with parts of the Interstate unplowed, it was as if I had a completely different vehicle. I am posting this because I have read many posts on different Lexus websites pro/con about what to use for winter driving.
I had considered purchasing the IS250 but the halogen lights and extreme performance of the IS350 made me a pro-IS350 owner. With the Blizzak tires, I can rest easy this winter. One caveat: These tires wear rapidly so anyone wishing to purchase Bridgestone Blizzaks needs to be ready to swtich back to all-season or performance tires when winter is over.
