I love the dark color, it does make the car look classy, plus it's less maintenance to keep it looking good!!

GREAT color, hence my debate, but do you ever notic a light purple hue in the shade? A friend of mine and I noticed that on the SC430 the dealer had out, that was called "black pearl" which I'm told is the exact same as SGM?

Thanks Flipside, you don't by chance have any pics of the SGM other than the ones you've already posted? Also, between black or SGM, what's your preference?
By the way are you 100 percent sure about "black pearl" vs. SGM? I only ask because my sales manager showed me the order sheet on my SGM and it said "black pearl" he said, it's a marketing thing, the brochure calls it SGM, the order sheet, black pearl.

And YES i did notice a slight purple hue in different angles.on the IS350. Beautiful color....I like the slight green and blue in it as well.
What am I saying..... I hate the color.... people stop looking at the SGM, its not worth it. Besides you don't want the same color everyone else has. I believe the red is great, get that people. Serious SGM is played out. ....
People stop buying SGM!!!! please!!!

He said both colors use the same touch up paint.

It is available on the SC430 and the new IS. The window sticker designation is incorrect as those are printed at the port of entry, they unfortunately have the offical names mislabled on the sticker and there are a few typos on the actual list of features. The official color and name for Smoky Granite Mica is 1G0. Not to be confused with Black Onyx 202 or Black Diamond 211 (05 SC430 Pebble Beach Ed. or 06 ES330 Black Diamond Ed.) which happen to have a slight metallic flake for 202 and full metallic for 211.

I don't see the code for black pearl. Could it be possible that it is the same color but a different name, as my saleman has stated. Maybe the 06 models will now have SGM. My sales guys also stated that they use the same touch up paint. So, if what you saying is true, that both colors are so different, wouldn't they have different touch up paints for them. My sales guy showed me the code on the door jam for the IS350 and the SC430 and they both matched.
Who cares what they call it, the color sucks, everyone buy the black onyx instead, less confusion. You don't want your car to be confused with a black pearl, do you?

It's my understanding that SGM was called Black Pearl before it was called SGM, hence the confusion. They probably changed it because of the obvious confusion between Black Onyx and Black Pearl. There are people who have ordered SGM IS's and on their paperwork it says Black Pearl. I think that's what's leading to the confusion in this thread. Black Onyx is metallic black. SGM/Black Pearl is the charcoal grey metallic color we've seen on the '06's. Please note that Flint Mica and GGP are different colors entirely.
