Default IS sales number Oct 05

Toyota/Lexus pressroom:

IS 300/IS 250/IS 350: 2,563 (05), 556 (04), 378.7% increase

Inline with the expectation I think.

That's for the current month (October) only, right?

There was no 250/350 last year so those numbers don't mean much do they?

Well those numbers mean the IS 250/350 seems to be off to a good start.

Hehe, yeah I bet they sell (within days/week) nearly every vehicle of the few few ones they have right off the bat. Most of the ones at my dealership have a sold sign in them.

The bigger story is the 40% drop in the LS430, the 22% drop in ES330,plus the 33%& 21% drop in the SUV's.
Also the GS300 have 60 less HP thas IS350 and more money so their appeal has to have dropped. Lexus dealers are going to have to start moving cars. Even if they sell their enitre allocation of IS's for the next couple of months. I would expect big discounts on all models except IS at December sales event.

Considering that few of the other cars in the IS's category have had any changes in their historic sales rates, it seems that a number of the new IS sales have come at the expense of other Lexus models - not exactly what Lexus wanted to see. So, yes the IS will sell 40K/ units yr but is it at the expense of lowered sales in other area of the lineup?

Well this October was a bad month for car sales in general, at least Lexus' moved up some percentage overall. We'll see what the yearly trends are. I still think the IS will grow the Lexus brand, more than it cannibalizes Lexus sales from other models.

not really, sales drops in ES and LS is mostly because they are older and much bigger vehicles plus the market saturation after sale events of previous months.

In fact, Lexus/Toyota is one of the few brands that managed to raise sales year on year basis for October.

The LS still sells more than the competition. Besides, its at the end of its product cycle, so sales will be down, the ES will be replaced soon as well. EVERYONE's SUV sales are down, due to gas prices but Lexus still is the best selling.

True. A 400% increase sounds great but they weren't selling any 300s anyway. What is incredible is this car didn't have a full month of sales and it has gone up A LOT in price and consumers have responded.

Go to Car Chat, look at our sticky with Oct car sales for EVERYONE, Lexus/Toyota did very well as most car makers had a loss last month

Huh, it means they sold 556 IS's Oct'05 and 2,563 in Oct'06. So YES, the numbers do mean a lot.

considering that the new 06 i-s was released on oct 14.. and had only the last 2 weeks of the month to sell w/ limited initial supply, i think that number is very good! for november and december, you may see the quantity of 06 i-s' possibly double (hitting the 4,500 - 5,000 a month mark)
