Default Think it's ok to do the full break in period in one day?

OK... so I'm just planning out my first day with my car and seeing as how I despise waiting for the break-in period to end I'm thinking I'll just take the car to Chicago (about 360 miles) and have lunch when I get it and by the time I get home again the break in will be over... Essentially I'll be doing the entire break-in over a span of about 12 hours. Would this be a bad thing to do? I would assume it would be ok but perhaps someone has some insight...

Just a thought...

well, you're probably off breaking it in at a variety of speeds. im assuming that the 360 miles is going to be mostly highway. im telling you, it wont be hard to put 1000-1500 miles. i enjoy driving my 250 so much that i drive for no reason at all.. but personally i would just try to put 1000 miles of various driving on it.

you should be fine, especially if you dont just set the cruise control for 6 hours straight. As long as you change speeds from time to time you should be okay. The vette guys break there cars in on the way home from the factory in bowling green kentucky all the time.

my insight: its your car, if someone tells you go to ahead, will you?

there is no sure answer anyone can give you, unless you put a sensor right in the core
of your engine.

If you're asking if I'd jump if someone told me the answer is no... just looking for opinions as I've not really seen this come up before. I can vary my speed enough on the trip so that it won't be constant highway speed, I'll just take non-interstate routes and go through towns... no issues with the trip taking longer, I'd just like to be done with the break in in a few days at most.

What did it say about braking? 182 miles no hard braking? Maybe I'll just go to the track and drive my way out of the break in...

If I had to guess I'd say that as long as you vary the speed (which you seem to be willing to do), then it's no problem. I don't know if I'd do it, but I sincerely doubt you'll be doing the car any harm.

I know this is a stupid question for all those car buffs out there, but I was wondering how the engine gets harmed in the first five-hundred miles by driving the same speed or accelerating too fast? Does it have to do with the transmission or something? Also whats with the breaks why do they need time as well? I'm interested in finding out the reason behind this break in period. I know this is probably a basic answer but bear with me on this one. Thanks.
