Most of the rain sensor box is blocked by the mirror so you don't really notice it.

I guess it's ok. But I'm sure they could have made it loss obtrusive, like other manufactures. It looks like an afterthought, and not nicely integrated.

And there's a hand-grab above the driver's side window as well. My IS300 only has it on the passenger side.

I don't know what others' look like, but the sensor does need to be on or near the windshield, and it requires a certain area to accurately estimate the amount of rain hitting the windshield.

Actually the area of the base of the mirror mount is sufficient. The sensor doesn't actually measure anything other that refracted light to determine amount of water/liquid hitting the sensor area).

Does anyone know if that sensor will mess with E-Z Pass or other electronic toll-collection devices? I've heard that having electronics on the windshield near the mirror or in the mirror can mess with this stuff... I guess I'll just have to wait until my E-Z Pass comes to try it for myself...

It shouldn't effect anything. Make sure that your E-Z pass does not block the light sensor on the mirror. This will affect the auto dimming feature of the mirror.
