How bad are all-season tires in good weather driving?

Big snow hit Toronto today (I guess the mid-west yesterday). It will be my first attempt with the all-seasons. I have a set of Hakkapalita Nokia RWs at my local tire store which are "extreme all seasons" which I ordered before I knew the new IS would have all-seasons. According to some friends with Quattros they are the way to go.
I suppose its better safe than sorry
