There are no zips that let BYO build a fully loaded IS. You can get a nicely equipped, but not fully loaded. Fully loaded would be $48K.

You're right, with one big caveat. It lets you build a 250AWD fully loaded. But any RWD can only add 18" package or the Nav package. Now that's strange.

skingsland:

In VA, you're close enough to Central region that you should just be able to drive over there and pick up a car right off a dealer lot -- why wait four months? Assuming you're in Fairfax, or nearby it, Cleveland, OH is only about an hour further from you than NYC is -- about a five hour drive, if that. And I know for a fact you can get a near-loaded IS350 (everything but the radar cruise control, the $45k MSRP package) right off a dealer lot there. =) (Did it myself two weeks ago -- I'll put in a plug for Metro Lexus in Brook Park, great service and buying experience.)

Just a thought.

I've definitely thought about this. Driving to OH or KY from the DC area (I'm in Arlington, 5 min. outside DC) that is. Here are the reasons I don't:

1) According to the BYO Lexus site, there's some stuff that's on those cars I don't want: PA, Pref. Acc., etc. It'll jack up my price about $700.

2) I haven't found any referrals for salesmen there who are willing to deal. I talked to rpwsrw, and he said MSRP only -- he's sold out through Feb. But on the East Coast I can get about $3700 off MSRP. Add that to the $700 from #1, and we're talking a $4400 difference for almost the same exact car.

3) Not to mention the expense of driving or flying out there. (I can get to either NJ dealer in under 4 hrs.)

4) As much as I'd like my car now, we're in winter here. My current car (VW Passat) is FWD with all-seasons and has great traction control. My future IS 350 is RWD with summer tires. So not getting my car until Spring might be a blessing in disguise.

I know lots of people who purchase vehicles out of state and drive them home, no problem. If there are no [state] restrictions; my Minnesota friend goes to Omaha all the time since the very same car is overpriced in his market (I even once made a trip with him). Then I had another Missouri friend fly to Pittsburgh and drive an M3 back....

Come to Kansas and Missouri to buy a car if you want, if we got 'em here. I live in Kansas and I purchased my car in Missouri, it's nearly 30 days now so I gotta go take care of the sales tax soon.

I just talked my my NJ guy... they contract out for transferring the registration/tags/etc., so they'd know if it's not OK to do. plus they'll be taking care of it for me anyway!!
