While backing out of my garage today, the rear park assist sensor lit up and started beeping as if there was something. I quickly looked in the backup camera--nothing. Put the car in Park, then Reverse--beeped again. Got off the car to make sure I wasn't running over my neighbor's cat--nothing. Put the car in reverse the 3rd time, and no alarm this time. Must've been a ghost. By the way, the garage door WAS open.

For some reason this reminds me of the reports of 'ghosts' opening garage doors...turns out the signals were coming from a nearby military base.

How much steam comes out of the 2IS exhaust at startup on a cold day? Wonder if that is enough to set it off?

good questions, but it was at least in the 40's this am (I don't recall seeing a lot of steam, either), plus I don't think ultrasound waves get bounced back by the steam (do air planes get lost in the clouds?).

This problem has happened on the MB S-Class when we had it about 2 years ago. We were on the traffic light (very front) and out of no where the park assist went crazy and nothing was infront of us, no smoke or anything. Maybe it was a ghost, spooky.

I know you guys are joking but if it was a ghost it still wouldnt have beeped, unless ghost can take physical forms now and i am not aware of it . Since they are only spirits i dont think the sensor was designed to pick up anything of the sort. lol

maybe the ghost was in the computer--I hear that a lot of European cars also have gremlins in the electronics.

My park assist goes crazy at the intersection of Campus and University in Irvine. There is a ghost story associated with that area. My husband and kids didn't believe me at first, but now we're all convinced that it's the ghost.
