I'm a lazy bum and don't care about manual transmission. The traffic in the Bay Area, CA is all stop and go. However I'd like to see the IS350 AWD, so I can take it Lake Tahoe during the winter season.

There are very few days when AWD would help me here in the south east EXCEPT for today. I used to have an Audi TT with 6MT and you could really take off even in the wet weather with all 4 wheels for grip!
If they had the IS350 with MT I probably would have already ordered one.

All the good rally cars like Evo, Subaru are AWD. The porshe 911 AWD was tested faster than the RWD version around the track (Top Gear). AWD also allows better traction for launches from a standstill. AWD is not just for snow and wet.
DSG shifts faster than even F1 drivers so for the same power, a DSG equipped car would accelerate faster than a true manual car.
Oh and an option for hood and roof to be made of carbon fibre for weight reduction.

I would like to see a sequential manual transmission for the IS350. Long before the offical specs were out, Toyota hinted a possible SMT, but turned out to be a paddle-auto (which is better than no-paddle-auto)
A manual or SMT IS350 would put it SO CLOSE to the E46 M3 that it's not even funny
I would say if the M3 is given a normal automatic transmission it'll probably be about the speed of IS350 auto. Heck, the IS350 is probably as quick as a M3 convertible.

Here's a repost of what I said in the rollcall/welcome thread:
If Lexus comes along with a 6MT IS350 before I turbo/supercharge the my IS250 (still undecided on when/if I want to void my engine warranty in the near term), then I'll trade in/up, as the power level in the 350 really is exhilarating. Until then, I'll continue to drive my Mini for fun, and the IS for commutes/vacations.
Lexus can SUCK IT for not offering a manual transmission in the IS350. I had one on special order since the end of November, but after reading various online forums (including this one) and hearing about the shifting behavior of the AT, I went for another test drive and paid attention. The transmission shifts slowly and doesn't stay in the gear you put it in! Whichever engineer decided the behavior should be "paddles/shifter determine the highest gear" instead of "paddles/shifters determine the exact gear" should be FLOGGED.
Put the G35 or 330i AT tranny in the IS350, and I'd almost consider it perfect. As it is, I settled for the underpowered (IMO) IS250 so I could get the manual. The low power situation can be easily rectified.
(This coming from an enthusiast who has previously owned or spent significant seat time in all manual transmission cars: Datsun 280zx, BMW 325i, Honda Predule VTEC, Honda S2000, Mini Cooper S). Isn't Lexus marketing the IS350 towards the "enthusiast"?!?! Argh.
