I noticed that in the brochure and in a sticker on the car, Lexus warns that the 18 inch tires on the new IS could last less than 15,000 miles. I checked the price of the tires, and it would cost over $1,000 to replace all four with identical tires. I drive about 15,000 miles a year. Does this mean I will be spending over $1,000 per year on tires if I buy a new IS?

The "less than 15,000" has nothing to do with Lexus specifically. Its just the way normal 18 inch low profile tires are. No matter what care you have.

You could spend a little more and get the longer lasting 18inch tires, or if you your really that worried about it, not get the 18inch.

it's actually more about the type of tires you have. i believe the tires on those 18s are high performance, so 15 to 20k sounds rigt.

get tires elsewhere, say from tirerack or so, it will be way under 1000.......

i have 20" wheel and i need 245/35/20 and 285/30/20 tires. even my tires just cost around 1000 bucks for 4. you should be paying quite a bit less.

When i bought my car i asked them to throw in the tires and wheels warranty where they replace tires and tow your car if needed to replace it.
My mom had low profs on her 5 series and had to replace her tires sometiems twice a year she got sick of it so switched to a lower size. When she got her new Lexus she was really concerned about the tires and they threw in the tire/wheel package... so she told me to do the same.

If your worried about the COST of replacing the tires often then add the warranty....
if your worried about having to change popped tires every other day then get 17's or find some run flats.

At The Tire Rack, a set of the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires that come with the IS will set you back exactly $700 plus shipping.

At the same source, a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires, same sizes, will run $746 plus shipping. .I'd spend the additional $46. .In not particularly spirited driving in my M3, but also mostlly stop-and-go (not highway) driving, I probably averaged 22,000 miles on each set of my Pilot Sport Tires, albeit 17" wheels, but also 40 aspect ratio.

FWIW, I think the Tire Rack prices are lower than when I last checked a few weeks ago.

The Tire Rack website, www.tirerack.com, is a great source of information.

But to get the most out of any tire, make sure they're inflated well -- under-inflated tires and bad alignment are two big factors leading to rapid tire wear.

Finally, I would be leery of a dealer agreement to replace your tires as needed. .No incentive to give you anything but the cheapest tires out there. .And that would be a shame with this car.

how long the tires last depend heavily on your driving style. Sumer tires always wear out quicker due to the softer compound. On your next set, consider all-weather tires which have almost double the wear index of summer tires; they cost less, too, at the price of somewhat less performance.

A word of hope.

The annual cost will be less because the front tires last considerably longer than the rear tires.

On my S2000, the rears were close to done when I sold the car but the fronts were in great shape.

if your tires wear out in 5k miles maybe you can go to them, or if there are tire defect then yes the tire company will warrant them

these 18 inch tires average about 20k miles. if you drive them nicely then you'll probably get 23 to 26k miles.

if you drive crazy you can wear them out almost in a week.

normal normal driving your rear probably wear out faster. make sure don't hit any pot holes and check out tire pressure and alignment.

plus you don't have to get the same tires everytime when you need to replace them. try something else... like.. s03, ps2, azenis, fm901, etc....

my dealer ask me to pay 900 and i get life time replacement of tires for free.... BUT you have to hit every maintenance that this car require to have from them.. either way they'll make money from you.

We put four sets of tires on our IS300 in four years and 50K miles. We would get a few thousand more out of going with a harder, cheaper tire but the price of increased road noise and sloppy handling wasn't worth it.

I never got more than 8K out of the rears and 12K out of the rears out of either of my S2000's and I'm doing about the same on the NSX.

Price you pay for good handling and excellent braking.

They are just disclaimers that they put on there. I'm coming up to 24,000 miles on my 17" low profile tires on my IS300 (the first set).

There usually aren't any warranties with summer tires (Y or Z rated). When I bought my Pilot Sports for my IS a couple years ago, there was no warranty available...no road hazzard. A week later i get a nail in the side wall and have to cough up another $225....
