hey cmusic. i m planning to take out the 8" factory sub and install the pioneer shallow series which is 2.5" ... http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...llow/TS-SW841D do you think it would make any difference? and it is a good idea to do it?? please help thanx
The Pioneer sub you mention would probably fit in the space between the rear deck metal and the rear deck panel. You will have to do some fabricating of a mounting ring (out of wood or MDF) to mount the Pioneer sub since the factory sub has its mounting "ring" attached to it. Make sure the ring is sealed off so no sound from the back of the sub can come through.
However powering the sub with the factory amp will probably leave you wanting a bigger after-market amp. The two factory amp channels only put out about 20 watts per channel. You can only use one channel with the Pioneer sub. The Pioneer sub will sound much better with 80-120 watts.

So what has changed since this thread was made?
Also im sure if everyone wants a better sound system its best to get a stronger more powerful watt amp right? why not just send the signal from the stock cd/radio dash to aftermarket amp and run speakers to speakers wires to amp?

The factory CD/radio is excellent. Currently there are no aftermarket dash kits that allow aftermarket radios to be installed in the IS. I have a limited edition Alpine F#1 Status CDA-7990 CD/radio that was hand built with 1% tolerance parts and cost $3,000 when brand new. It is the best CD/radio that Alpine has ever produced. I hate to leave it sitting on the shelf but the factory CD/radio (either the standard CD/radio or the ML) are so good that any sonic differences probably can’t be heard when driving.
the 7990 was a wonderful unit if paired with the pxa-h990 processor. without it, there is a clean signal but from the cd mechanism/transport but not fully appreciated since the car cannot be tuned. if ever an audiophile were say what the best units were ever produced. there is the denon z-1 or the reasonable clarion drz-9255 and even more legendary and better sounding unit.. the 7909. cheers on having a cda-7990 but without the processor, you are missing out on a lot more sonic bliss.

7990 can not be paired up with the PXAH990. Different interface and bus.
All of the Alpine units will pale in comparison to the Sony C90/XDP4000X combo in terms of sound quality. Alpine used NE553x op amps in the analog output stage. Those parts are absolute crap.
C90, depending on the batch, will have either OPA275 or OP97. Not too bad. When modded, the C90 becomes a F#1 Status killer in terms of sound QUALITY, not in terms of tuning. That is, if you put the head units in a room and pushed the signal through a very good amp and some very good home speakers, you'll hear the difference between the two setups.
Forgot what the XDP4000X had for op amps though. I've already modded mine so the old ones went into the circular file.

I have a simple question and i couldn't find the answer in the manual i was given. I set up my radio station, but apparently one of them doesn't have a good signal, so the radio just skips to another station after a while. The signal is good enough for me to listen to it, so how do i turn this "skipping" feature off?
