Yep, that is the recurring "license plate fee" that I should expect to pay each year. It goes down over the years so next October I expect to pay around $500 to renew and get an '07 tab.

The $185.28 credit was 10 months remaining from the ~$200 annual for my trade-in (Acura CL-S). In Kansas, you can take the one license plate (rear plate only) off your old car and put it on your new car (keep your own plates).

500 bucks seems high? How much does everyone else pay for state registration/plate fees?

COme to California. Registration is ~2% of vehicle value.

I don't think you did the math. That's 2%/year. So $45K vehicle value = $900 registration.

Got it, thought that was NEGATIVE 2 percent, as in you get some kind of a car credit for the sick housing costs there! Okay, now I don't feel QUITE as bad about freezin' my butt of here in the midwest ice box!

Oregon is about $50 every two years. Where we get killed is on income and property tax.

Ken, what was the category for your property tax (it's on the receipt where the individual sales taxes were listed--toward the bottom). I went to the tag office to pay my tax yesterday, and the lady couldn't even find 06 IS350 on their list--ended up using 05 IS300 as the basis for property tax.

The category/class is 028.

The clerk couldn't find it listed either and I tried to get her to use the IS300 but she went over to the appraiser instead. Took about 5-10 minutes.

That seems kinda high compared to the other vehicles, did I get ripped?

my clerk was nice enough to use IS300 as the basis and ended up with 023 ($456; I paid $350 (022) for my $35k G35C in 2002). I think yours was a little on the high side.

Man, now I feel a heck of a lot better about my registration. I went in this morning and forked up $822 to register my car. Of course, you bought your car which is why you're paying taxes (I'm leasing my IS350). The $822 is just to register the car in Colorado for a year. A bit higher than expected, but it's a necessity.
