That seems kinda high compared to the other vehicles, did I get ripped?

Remember this last year? When I registered my vehicle, I got charged tax based on class 028 because the IS350 was not in the system so the appraiser made a best guess. I made a note to check back sometime next year; today the IS350 is listed....under class 025.

I'm calling tomorrow, the county owes me about $150.

$3300 is ALOT of money to give up just for tax and the government.

I would of tried to register it out of state just to avoid paying that $3k.

Its possible to do it and in the end you would of had the $3k in your pocket.

Dann that sucks. I thought VA was bad at 3.2% Tax, which equates to about 1300 on a 40K car. Yearly property tax continues at .75% of the first 20K, and 3% of the remaining value over 20K.

In MD, tax is 5% purchase... then never again

car registration is like 65 bux in texas a year, ~40-45 for inspection/emissions testing (IS owners dont have to worry about that until 2008 here, since new vehicles have the first year waived)

Why would you pay property tax on something that depreciates? That makes no sense to me.

maybe he means for houses, so they have to pay a state income tax and property tax i thought it was either one or the other, like how it is in texas, no state income tax but there are property taxes

looking at some of the yearly payments some people have to make texas FTW

Gotta love Tax evaders. Sheesh.
Then when the "gov't" doesn't fix the potholes you get pissed.

We pay 5% sales tax, then every year pay an excise tax. First year is based at 90% of MSRP, Second year is 60%, third year 40%, fourth at 20% then I think 10% every year afterwards.

The rate is $25 per $1000 of value. So my IS (assuming they go by MSRP of $29,900) would be something like $1076 per year. Luckily for me it's prorated by calendar year, so if my car comes next month, I'll just have to pay about $700 this first year. Same next year.

In CA sales tax is 8.x%, so tax there is like $1400 more up front. I'd rather have the lower sales tax, which applies everything else we buy (not to clothes or food though). I know in TN sales tax applies to everything under the sun, at almost 9%. OUCH!

Income tax here is 5%

Plus, sales tax is deductable off federal income taxes so there's a small savings there.

Sales tax deductible on Federal income tax? That's news to me. Explain please.

Cool

If you itemize your taxes you can deduct the sales tax on your vehicle purchase (or other big ticket purchases) if purchased before January 1, 2006. I don't believe a decision has been made yet if they are going to allow this deduction again this year. You also can take a deduction for other state sales tax paid. (See your tax advisor for further details)

. You can't even pump you own gas.[/QUOTE]

They have to somehow keep the ex-jailbirds employed.

NJ also doesn't have self serve gas stations. Ridiculous if you ask me.

I'm sure that the automobile dealers in KS had something to do with this system. In MO, you actually have, as you said, 30 days in which to sell your own vehicle and you only have to pay the sales tax on the difference.

The only choice, if you sell your car yourself is to do what they call an "in-out" which means that you find a buyer for your car and take them with you when you purchase the new car. The dealer takes your car in trade and sells it one minute later to your buyer.

I've done this a number of times with several different dealers. When I found my Ferrari my seller took it to the same dealer where we bought our IS's. I traded my SC for the Ferrari that the dealer had purchased one minute earlier from my seller. It takes more organization but it's worth it over just eating the sales tax every time that you change cars.

but, then, you probably knew all of this .....
I live in California and I am wondering if this is applies to California too?

Thank you

Yes the no sales tax thing is pretty sweet, but our income taxes are high as are our property taxes. And yes not being able to pump your own gas is maddening!! I would pay more to avoid having to deal with the gas pumping mouth breathers that work there.

Before I lived in Oregon and lived in Alaska, now that was sweet! No state income or sales taxes, plus you get a few thousand dollars a year in oil royalites just for living there!

Default KS resident also

My expirience was fortunately different in that my 04 GX 470 trade in resulted in only an approx diff of $3,000 on the purchase of the IS 250. My check was for $249. Gotta love that set up at 6000 Lamar with 30 stations open, they whip through a hundred people within a 10-12 minute wait. Great system for a county government operation.

yes it is pretty nice, totally computerized system for calling your number while you wait....and it's way fast even at the end of the month when it's crowded.
