A regular person may never catch that the third violin plays slightly out of step with the rest of the orchestra, they pay attention to the whole performance. They might not notice that Howard Stern sounds like he has a slight cold when listening in the car as compared to the radio on the kitchen table.

Musicians, recording engineers, and audiophiles listen to how each note, word, or verse sounds as compared to a live performance. They analyse the sound as they enjoy it, not just listen to it.

If you like the sound quality you are hearing then you are fine. But if you are like me I have learned to hear into and beyond what a normal person hears. Different speakers change the sound, some for the better, some for the worse. For myself the factory IS speakers are good for most people, but not good enough for me.
Don't get me wrong, I am only content with the stock system when comparing it
to most other stock systems,, No way in hell am i impressed with it...Just comparing it
to this 300zx i had yrs ago, with a decent system, consisting of 4 mb quartz, a pair of 10" solo baric kickers and a couple of sound stream amps, it sounds like crap.. I'd love
to have a system put in my IS, but i dont think its worth them tearing apart my interior
to do it.. You know you're going to end up with a rattle or 2, and some interior abrasions

Lexus says $1900 to replace which is almost 5% of cost of car....YIKES...This is a total design error on Lexus part. I am going to take them to court. You should be able to use the car with "Normal" wear..but this is insane.

Also, there are 2 silver inserts by the gearshift....if you brush them with your hand they will scratch

This is my first Lexus...I love the car, but, this cosmetic stuff is CRAP....I should be feeling good right now, but instead I think the car is trash....

I called the 1800 number to see if they can help. I just want them to do the right thing here....
It is an obvious quality/design error....

Be warned...If you get this car with wood....don't even touch it or it will scratch~

Anyone else out there with these issues?
Any updates from Lexus on this?

Interesting. Have not had any issues with BMW wood scratching or heard of any complaints of this ?

MY 02 Bmw 330cic had the premium package, which included
wood,, it didnt show many scratches after the 4+ years i've
owned it were up, but i think its due to the fact that the wood
on it was only installed in small strips, and in spots
were you rarely place objects... I'm not sure if Bmw did that
intentionally, but if they did

My dad has an RX for 2 years without any problem scratches on the wood. But then again he doesn't drag stuff across the console.

Default Update

So far there is no update from Lexus specialist. He is still working on situation. He promised me some type of info this week.

Let us hope Lexus does the right thing on this~

But if you claim, the wood scratches too easily, won't it just get scratched
again , if they decide to replace it free of charge? I think they should just
replace it and charge you what they pay for it.. Since you know they're not
going to redesign the clearcoat finish on it, just so you won't be able
to scratch it as easy..

They have a design defect. You will see if you have the wood.

If they replace at no charge I will just know to never touch the wood.

This is recall worthy in my mind.

If you have the wood...use extreme care.

Also, my beef is really the crap of $1900 for a new piece. That is stupid and a rip off.

I think more people with scratches will come forward as the thing gets damaged.

Recall involves a safety issue. No recall is required here.

this type of complaint is relative. It's not uncommon for the owner of a new vehicle to complain, for example, that the paint is too soft and chips easily, or the door panel is too thin and gets dinged, etc (the plastic trim inside the B-pillar in MDX's is notorious for getting cut up by the belt buckle). The manufacturer may deem necessary to replace its supplier, but it will not do a recall.

I agree that it's worth a documented complaint. Perhaps Lexus could replace AND pay for a clear-bra-esque protectant?

These scratches are for real, there were even some on my car the day I picked it up, I told them about it and they said for me to come back and they'd swap it out with another car. But honestly the other cars in the showroom look just as bad!???

One of the guys at my Lexus service department recommended Meguiars clear plastic polish to remove the scratches. I haven't tried it yet. Has anyone used this product ?

I'm so happy someone else noticed this and im not crazy. I had an 05' Jaguar X-type for a year with 15k miles on it. Way more wood inside and it had not a scratch on it. IS 2 months 4k miles like 10 ... maybe its the type of coating they use on the wood?
