Default IS 350 Wood Scratches

Be CAREFUL...I only have 380 miles on my 06 IS350 and the stupid wood is scratched. This is worse then the Apple Nano scratch issue. All that happened was a plastic hose brushed across it...It made deep scatches..

Lexus says $1900 to replace which is almost 5% of cost of car....YIKES...This is a total design error on Lexus part. I am going to take them to court. You should be able to use the car with "Normal" wear..but this is insane.

Also, there are 2 silver inserts by the gearshift....if you brush them with your hand they will scratch

This is my first Lexus...I love the car, but, this cosmetic stuff is CRAP....I should be feeling good right now, but instead I think the car is trash....

I called the 1800 number to see if they can help. I just want them to do the right thing here....
It is an obvious quality/design error....

Be warned...If you get this car with wood....don't even touch it or it will scratch~

Anyone else out there with these issues?

Sorry to hear about your issue.

Which dealer quoted you that price?

Default Who quoted the price

Ira Lexus of Massachusetts...It is a total ripoff

I have complained to the 1-800 number. They will have a "specialist" call me in 2 days. I feel the run around.

Fact is I take great care of things....But the wood and the 2 silver pieces are too fragil to be in a car. Even my expensive home wood furniture which is either Mahagony or Cherry does not scratch that easily.

Man I am burning

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be even more careful than I already am not to scratch it.

What kind of hose? Vacuum cleaner?

This isn't an uncommon issue with wood trim - it's not really that durable compared to plastic, but consumers keep demanding it because it's tactilely and aesthetically more pleasing. Unfortunately if the scratch is actually in the wood (not just the clear urethane over the wood) it'll be almost impossible to repair without replacing it. As crappy as some plastic interiors look it's durability that keeps me away from wood.

Keep us updated.

I don't know of any car wood trims that don't scratch easily. Unlike most home wood furniture with staining, automotive wood trims have clear urethane coating that gives it the reflective shine; it is that clear coat that gets scratched. Metallic-looking plastic trim (fake aluminum) also has the same problem (check Infiniti G35 forum and you will see the same complaints). That's why I never lay anything on the center console.

I have owned Mercedes, BMW and Audi...All with wood. The Audi by far has the most real type of wood and the most beautiful.

I am not a stranger to wood in the car. This is different. The hose was plastic, the kind at the car wash to vacuum the car.

It just brushed up against the wood and dug in deep....The wood is not scratched...just the top protective part.

It is junk.....Just like the same thing Apple went thru on the new Nano...Fact is they can coat the wood with many things...the current solution is not good.

On top of that there is the fact that the metal looking side plates by the shift **** are all scratched up as well.

If your cell phone or keys touch this wood it will destroy it...If you put your mail on the wood and it slides it will scratch it.

Trust me when I tell you there is a problem here......I am a luxury car owner of several types and I know what the deal is.

This is a Lexus issue...
I just hope they stand by their product. I know Benz, BMW and Audi would....

I just love the car...It is so fast, beautiful and gets tons of looks...It is silver with the black interior....

I recommend the car...just watch out for the wood

Sorry to hear about your car.

I hear ya regarding the wood. Just go my 350 on Saturday. My nephew brushed his forearm (while wearing a denim shirt) across the wood and it scratched it a bit. From most angles you don't even notice it, but from some angles you can see the scraches. The scratches are whisker thin, but they do show.

All cars with wood trim have this issue. It is annoying. I would have thought that Lexus cars would have been better.

If anyone knows of something that can be applied to correct the scratches please post.

Please keep us updated regarding your discourse with Lexus.

I was able to stop laying my ipod nano on top of the wood surface before I collected too many more scratches. I only have a few, but the surface is not destroyed. Anyway, in the long run, I plan to replace the wood with the silver from the sport package if I can. Can you post pics of yours? Here's mine:

When you pay top dollar for a car that purports to be the best in class, you have a right to complain.

I hope that something can be done to the covering, as it seems that the wood itself is not scratched, only the covering. Hate to have to replace the whole piece, with the good underlying wood.

By contrast, I had wood stains penetrate beneath the main glossy layer of house furniture--deep, and that was a pain.

wonder if the fine scratches can be buffed out with car polish/wax?
