Ok I have read this thread so many times debating on weher to do it or not. 2 questions:
1: When pulling the slim silver peices off that are next to the shifter (1st step) do you pull from the side closest to the armrest or the radio?
2: If I was to obtain a ML changer could I swap it in directly into my non ML.. IE just plug in the same harnessess? I've heard that there is an extra wire running from changer to nav screen is this true? Would it work with the non ML amp speakers etc etc..
Thanks

ahhh no picture right now.
I used the rocker switch dryfus used on his Es350. Looks very nice.

i flushed mount the switch into the dummy plate near the Gas and Trunk switch.
but anyway, does the wiring make sense? let me know. I will elaborate on it.
Picture from the ES350

Sorry for this very basic question, but I have read most of the 391 posts on this subject and have read lots of talk about viewing DVD in motion. I was not even aware that the DVD played movies/etc period, even when stationary. Help please. How does it work? Does the DVD go in the dash player or in the Nav unit?
Again, sorry for the probably stupid question.

istundra...what location did you wire to get 12v? And does the switch use power while the car is off?
I'm more concerned about trying to hide this job as much as possible (cutting wires behind loom and taping back up to make it look like nothing was done). I just know if I do this mod sometime in the next 100k miles something will go wrong with my Nav and lex will not honor the repair because I "jerry rigged" my nav. I'd be thoroughly pissed off at myself for that.
Has anyone done this mod with the intention of being about to completely undo and hide in the case of a warranty issue?

I did cut the wires under the loom. I peeled the loom back and cut the wire, so in the event i need to reverse it, the loom would cover up the connections.
Also, I taped the 12V from the cig lighter. i believe it is ORANGE.
When the car is OFF, the cig lighter will be off, hence uncharge the relays.

Ok that's what I'm talking about...nice, clean, and sneaky. Do you think you have any advantage of using the relays rather than just the cut n paste? Now that I'm thinking about it, why would I ever want a switch for it? I'd be happy not having to drill a hole in the accessory slot or having to look at a switch I dont really need.

Well... if you install a switch... u would cut a dead panel (ones u punch out). If you were to reverse it.. a dead panel would cost about $10 at the dealer. Buy a new one and replace it.
Why is a switch better? In my opinion, if your car needs to sense those wires for ANY REASON, a flip of the switch can bring back factory connections.
Merely up to you... but i feel a switch is much better in the long run....

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I do have ML, but I had never heard that I could play Video DVD, even while stationary. I just tried and no pic. What is the trick?

First you need to have the ML/Nav package, not the options ordered separately. Second you need to engage the parking brake to watch video.

Got it. Great to know. Maybe I didn't read the manual closely enough! Just watched an old football game replay. Maybe now I'll have the courage to try the hack.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi guys: I make the hack for my 07' i make the same procedure in the first page like "Tim817" says. Everything is working good while moving the car. Movies, Bluetooth, mp3, ect. In the navigation here in Puerto Rico doesn't work yet and i can tell you if is working. The process is very fast to do 30 min.
The hardest thing is take the vent out (you have to do very carefully, have clips, beware.)
This is the best thing you can do for the 2is.

Hi guys,
I tried this hack and it worked for a day or 2?
I did the wiring and didnt put the air vents back on at the time.
I drove around testing dvds.
It worked.
I tried a few movies from China with all region code, and it worked too.
I tried a the Matrix Triology (made in USA) and that worked too.
I put the vents back on and tried...it stopped working.
I dont specificially think its the vents, but I'm wondering whats wrong.
Any ideas?
