What's the upkeep like on the smokey granite mica? Similar to black? My last couple of cars have been silver (looks good if you wash it twice a year ) but its kinda boring too.

I have a SGM on order and don't expect the maintenance to be more than my dark shadow gray Mach1. I wash maybe once every two months.

SGM is SWEET. I flip-flopped between that and BOP, finally went with BOP since we already have one vehicle which is very similar to SGM and my other is black.

Default Smoky Granite MIca one of the three most popular...

colors on the IS series. It has a clear coat so it is more resistent to damage such as acid rain and minor scratches. It comes alive in bright light and the Mica refracts the light into a rainbow of colors when you look closely. Tungsten is the easiest color to keep up but some owners are experiencing Silver fatigue after the color's dominance since Model year 2000. Sometimes we will have all Silver cars in our showroom just randomly. That reflects the large amount of Silver produced in all models. The Black Onyx is a stunning car to see. It's muscles flex and ripple in the light. Darth Vader would only buy this color. Yeah, it's a pain to keep up and the paint's very sensitive but when its polished you know that it is the one.....

Production for the Eastern region of these three colors will be the rule for the rest of the year in the IS350. Other colors will be available for about two months and after that we're only going to get these three. I also like White but it came in fourth....

Haha that was the same deal with me. They had a SGM SC on display with gunmetal rims and I fell in love with the color.

Default Smokey Granite Mica

Pictures just do not do justice to this color. That is the color we have on ours and we adore it. As others have said, it totally changes depending on the light you see it in. We debated on the black or the SGM. There is no question the black is stunning, when clean and waxed properly. That lasts about 5 miles down the road then it is dirty again. The SGM retains the dignity and elegance of the dark car but still is easier to maintain. It seems to tolerate dirt better and does not show that you just washed it without waxing it.

Anyway - that's my two cents.

Here's a couple pics in the sunlight. Like some of the posts above, pictures really don't do this color justice.
