Illuminated scuff plate, install,problem,solution
Just got these yesterday.
The removal of the stock one was simple. I was able to pry it off with my hands. But if that is hard, take a flat screw driver, wrap the tip up with tape/plastic,cloth, then pry one of the corners of the scuff plate to pop it off. Then remove the rest with just your fingers. It took less than 1 minute to switch the other once once I figured it out.
The wire connection is the one circled.
And the new one installed. It's not lit, just camera flash.
HERE'S THE PROBLEM. The lights will not illuminate.
Some of you will say that the DOME light switch should be on the ON position.
I tried all switch combinations on the DOOR switch and ON/OFF switch on the DOME light cluster. Nothing worked.
Maybe the New scuff plated were bad, but two bad ones, I don't think so.
I took a multimeter and probed the connector. No power with any DOME light switch setting either.
Next, I opened the wire loom to find a powered line to connect to. I was hoping to find the wire that illuminated the red door light in all four doors. 50 or so more trials (and sore fingers) and none of the wires would react to opening and closing of the door. Maybe I missed it but I do not wanna try again. My last hope is tap power from the foot area LEDs. I know it will work cause I got some spare wires and connected the new scuff plates and walla, they were ON.
Please, anyone with the wiring diagrams, please help.

I checked the fuse list on the manual. I did not see a separate one. I believe it shares the dome light fuse, but the dome light still works. Please let me be wrong. I really do not wanna do some wirings.

According to the service manual you should always see 10-14V coming from the (+) connector that is present...
My bad- thats with the special test device they have- when any door is open you should see 10-14V across the connectors

Yeah I'm thinking there's got to be something higher up that has it switched off- according to the wiring diagram though it goes from the battery to the dome to the scuff plates with nothing inbetween

Is this a common problem with everyone who has installed these?
Or is this just a rare one. I have ordered these and i was under the impression that this was a straight install just plug in and lights on?
Any feed back will be appreaciated

No one else has posted any results- all indications from the service manual, including wiring diagrams indicate this is a P'n'P install...The ONLY thing I can come up with is that something needs to be programmed in the ECU to tell it to use these...however, according to the wiring diagram you should at least see voltage across the connector when the doors are open- aka the dome light is on

did you check the fuse box? i mean is there any separate fuse for these sill plates or something that comes with only the sport package? they usually left the fuse for those.
i think this is possible. i will go check my fuse box laster today.

I talked to the local Lexus parts dept (very nice people btw). They don't have a defnitive answer, but it could be many things. (1) plug wires not connected to anything; (2) missing fuse; (3) missing relay; (4) computer controlled (fade/in out like dome lights).
So needless to say, I canceled my order for them. I'll let you guys be the guinea pigs for this one.
