Default Switch out side mirror courtesy light

Not really sure if I'd want to do this mod- but thought I'd bring it up. Has anyone looked into switching out the bulb on the side mirrors that fade in as you approach the car? Maybe switch to LED? different color? Probably not very noticable but still something to look into.

Default Dimming LED?

On a side note. The lighing (side mirror, interior, etc) uses mosfets to dim the lights. Does anybody know whether the LED bulbs that are sold as replacement for interior bulbs, etc, can be dimmed or will they just switch to on after a certain voltage. For some reason I want to say that LED's are not dimmable like flourescents but then again, they're used in the dash and that is dimmable. Has anybody tried swapping any of the interior lights with LED's?

thought about it and decided not to, because you have to pop the mirror out to get to the bulb; plus LED's don't fade (only on/off) like regular bulbs do. The puddle lamp in the mirror comes on so slowly, by the time it's lit, I am already in the car.

The new GS's puddle lamps are LED, and yes, they fade. Really sharp looking. I honestly haven't wanted to pop the mirrors off to see what kind of a setup it is.

On a side note, the LED's use a lot less power than a regular halogen bulb would, so voltage modifications would probably have to be made (resistors, etc).
