IS 250 AWD "Drivetrain Harmonics"/Annoying Noise at 70 mph
I just go my IS 250 AWD a week ago. Every time I hit 68-70 mph I hear this strange noise, which goes away at higher/lower speeds. It sounds like an 18 wheeler is about ready to pass me on my left. I took it to the dealer today to have it checked out. A technician took it out on the highway with me and heard the noise. They kept it for the day, and called to tell me this afternoon that I am hearing "normal drivetrain harmonics" that are present with all of the IS 250 AWD cars. That sounds crazy. Can anyone shed any light on this? The sound is so annoying.

sorry to say but when im at those speeds i either here nothing ( if the radio is off ) or my radio blasting ....should take it back to the dealer or simply try another dealer who may be able to do a better job ?

Same here. I drive between 60-80 MPH in my IS 250 AWD, traffic allowing, and there's no extra noise except the wind and the road. Engine/drivetrain, etc. are virtually silent as a Lexus should be. I'd take it back and state that there's no way in heck that can be right and that other owners haven't reported it.
Either that, or you're extremely young and can hear harmonics that we old geezers can't.
Cheers,
Kermee

I've only got a little over 200 miles on mine, but I think I would have noticed that. The car is quiet and smooth and like Kermee mentioned, if it wasn't for a little wind/road noise I wouldn't hear anything.
I'll make it a point to try that speed range tmo and let you know how I make out.

Try to get the tech to test drive another 250 AWD with you to check on the noise (or lack of). I had a sunroof rattle that was "normal" until we took another car out for a drive.

Just following up.... I've been out all day in the car and I wasn't able to reproduce what you were describing.
Its raining really hard which increased the road/tire noise a little bit which by a stretch has that kind of harmonic sound at any speed over 40. But I drove most of the morning without the radio and again, nothing.
I guess I wasn't much help, but if it were me I'd be doing what MikeP suggested.
Good Luck and please let us know how you make out.
