Default OT - sad day here with the loss of this kid

he was a close friend of my 17yo, they were in high school together -in December the parents bought him a '97 M3 - the kid turned 16 in November - my first reaction was why a modd'd M3 as a starter? I was with the kid's parents last night - no words to describe their distraught - and I know the 18 yo as well - he just got a Scion abt 2 weeks ago - his dad is a doc in our 'hood.
So many lives now affected/screwed...****in kids and street racing..

My condolences to his family. It's just one more sad example of why people should keep their racing to the track...

Mogen:

My condolences to the kid's family and to your family as well. How's your 17 year old handling it? When death hits so close to home...it really makes you think about what's important.

same thing with parents who buy their boys four-wheelers/ATV's--one of the most dangerous "toys."

May sound cold, but stupid parents. Give a kid a car like that with no driving experience. What did they think would happen?

prayers and condolences.

don't have kids yet, but it terrifies me that one day i will let one have the ability to move thousands of pounds of steel and glass around at a teenager's whim

::edit::
omg, just read the link. i went to high school just minutes from there. my mom lives a mile away from that street. coal creek parkway is curvy and fun to drive but there are too many inlets for slow moving cars to merge to be speeding let alone racing.

Thanks Ed - I have 2 boys 14 and 17 that were really close to this kid - the 14yo is taking it real bad - they played pool very often. The 17yo is shocked - I hope he understands all the lives affected by this error in judgement - I'm letting him grieve before I start riding him.
And, yes, the parents were really stupid in getting the M3 in the first place. But, they are really rich, so I don't think the dad even knows what an M3 is - he probably just wrote the check.
Just an overall horrible thing for any parent to endure...
