England's Top Gear names 2006 IS "Executive Car of the Year"
Finally an unbiased rag review. I guess BMW forgot to pay these guys off.

Another comment from their IS 250 test drive article:
"Lexus has yet again come up with a car that will seriously rattle BMW's cage. It makes the 3-Series look like a rip-off"

. . . It's won a Top Gear award because, after years of trying, someone's made a car that conquers the Three, but not by apeing BMW values. It's gone its own way and it's a better car for it.

I also think this is the first of the real reviews of the IS... I’m in a mini battle with a few 3 series owners on another web site. Mainly because they are basically making statements like the IS "wallows and floats"... so I will quote this review that’s says:
As for the plump bit, get used to it - 'flame-surfacing' and 'new edge' are so last year. It's won a Top Gear award because, after years of trying, someone's made a car that conquers the Three, but not by apeing BMW values. It's gone its own way and it's a better car for it."

Lexus has built a great car with the IS series. But in definition, it is still no 3- Series. And a lot of magazine reviews do capture that.
Even Top Gear notes that, stating that the IS has gone its own way, and that's great too.
The IS350 is a great Lexus. The 330i is a great BMW.
I think while the general public will probably lump these two cars in as the same, most enthusiasts will acknowledge that there is a difference between the mission of the two vehicles.
I obviously chose the BMW, but I still can say that the IS350 is a great car. It has tremendous power, and great luxury features. However, I believe that the 330i has a bit more of an engaging driving experience, and the availability of a manual transmission with the larger engine option really won me over.

By the way, am I the only one that thinks the color of their test car is hideous?
