No ceramic doesn't intefere with radar. That's why it exists (why there's a market for it). It's the metallic based films that do. That's why I have Huper Optik on my back window, but used V-Kool up on the front windows to avoid tickets. My radar detector would really only be looking through the front and back windows so metallic on the side shouldn't matter.

My friend has Huper 60 on his front windshield of his C32. I didn't notice it until he mentioned it. When you look for it, you can see the distortion of the plastic, but you don't notice it unless you actively look for it. If you have darker tint elsewhere, a cop shouldn't notice the front windshield at 60%. I'm thinking about doing it myself.

I was going to do the Huper clear architectural film on the front. It's ultra clear and does a great job with UV. Unfortunately the guy that did Huper on the rest of the car is waffling a bit. He doesn't carry it in stock and I get the feeling he doesn't want to order it just to do a front windshield. He's trying to push one of the other Huper films on me.

Tint on the front window looks really sharp, but cops will pull you over fast, especially if you live in LA County. CHP and Sheriff's dept (if they are the pd for the local area) can spot it easily especially if the rest of your windows are tinted. I wouldn't do it.

How much do tint fines usually run?

Wait until you live in Texas and it's like 100 degree outside on the summer, and see if that "ghetto" thing does make the difference or not.
I agree with Tim, a lot of people here abuse the word "ghetto". I don't think that having a windshield tinted is "ghetto" at all. I do think that one should either tint the whole windshield or leave it untinted, doing the infamous "visor" doesn't help much (based on my own experience) with the sun; so if you don't want the cops to harrass you, just tint it light, so that it's unnoticeable (a good recommendation is 50%) and you should be ok.

I personally like to tint my cars with 30% in the windshield and 5% in the rest of the windows. It provides privacy, helps the A/C to cool off faster and MOST importantly, avoids the "fading-out" of the interior...among other benefits.... I've had my Toyota Corolla for 12 years now and my interiors look like new, all thanks to the tints. I've seen people with cars from the same year and their interiors are "faded-out" and look REALLY BAD

A lighter tint keeps the car looking classy, but still provides some of the benefits mentioned above. So, it's just a matter of personal preference. Here are some pics of my car so you have an idea of how it looks...

Can someone quantify the difference? I am curious because Lexus make a big deal about the ability of the glass to eliminate UV. I live in a place with ~30 days a year over 100F, but I only rarely leave the car outside. I don't commute at all, so I'm trying to balance the results vs. the risk. I suspect it isn't going to be a big deal for me, but it's worth a thought.
