I'll be taking my IS for the free 5000 mile oil change but after that
I'll be doing all my own maintenace. It's ridiculous what they
charge for a synthetic oil fill. The synthetic oil only costs me $20
at Walmart.

What I was more concerned about was the cost of a timing belt
replacement. It is usually recommended that the belts be replaced
around 60 - 90K miles. Some of my friends have paid close to
$1000 to have this done on other makes. So when I heard that the new IS 250
and 350 had a timing chain, that sold me. (The previous generation
IS and most Toyota's have belts, unlike BMW's and Mercedes).

Every dealer will have their own service rates. What mine told me
was that they will give me free state inspections for the life of the car.
They will even pick up the car at my house and drop it off when it is
done free of charge. We'll see if this is indeed true when the time
comes. Maybe this is their way of selling me recommended
maintenance.

I hear you Tulex. I plan on doing most of the maintenance myself. I saw that big drain plug on the transmission of the IS350. That was calming, and now timing chains, that's good to.
I have a older Montero and Mitsubishi was charging about $450-$550 for the 60k mile service, timing belt, accessory belts, seals around the timing belt, new platinum spark plugs, and a couple other various filter , and power steering fluid. I had it done cause the intake has to be taken off to get to the plugs. Oh well somethings you just dont have all the tools for everything. I will watch though.

But we don't have to worry about power steering fluid with the IS350, Valvoline synthetic motor oil in the crank. The Wix filter website already has the filter specs listed if you all want to look at them. The oil filter is a cartridge. Thats ok, I had a 'possessed Passat' that had a cartridge filter. Just a little more messy. I sure as hell won't let no 'monkey' get under this car. No quick lube or quasi tire-change meineke-midas minimum wage place getting near it. That's for sure.
Here is the filter web site. It also shows details on how filters are built in case you want to know.
enjoy.

You know what my salesman told me? Casey Jone told me that the IS350 does not have tranny fluid in them.......... speechless.

Take it to a Toyota dealer and spend around $25 bucks.

I second that. I'm planning to go to the Lexus dealer for my 5k visit, after that, Toyota all the way. Unless it's something major...

Just use a quick lube. The techs that change the oil at a dealer are no different than the techs at any quick lube. You don't really think the dealer has ASA level mechincs changing oil do you?
I used to be the buyer for an intl quick lube chain and the actual amount of times they screw up is low compared to the times poeple try to blame stuff on them. For example: a lady in Denver blamed the quick lube for her radio not working after they changed the oil. On the other hand, one of the outlets put the wrong filter on a GS which the owner drove until it siezed and they bought him a new engine. The have insurance for their mistakes.
I've been using a quick lube for approx 110K on my wife's Trooper with no problems. Also on my Maxima, Audi, Altima, Alfa Romeo and several company cars. They wouldn't touch the Jag since it was an older show car though.
