this is pointless. dont believe it? go to any lexus dealer and look at the older cars with nav screens. of course, 'if some drunk chick is in your car' . youre probably going to date rape her. loser.

My 2002 LX 470 has multiple scratches and it is almost worn down completly from just touching the "I agree" location on the screen. There are scratches from I am sure some guy at the car wash cleaning the screen. Can you imagine going to the high end car wash manager and requesting them to replace the 7,000 $ screen because the guy wiping down the interior used his universal cleaning rag to get that dust off the screen. I'll bet the manager would tell you to pound sand.
$20 ... giddy-up!

I'll send you pictures of the screen if you think a woman's fingernail can't harm the repetitive tapping each day.

i have one of the $10 screen protectors from ebay. works really well and is easier to put on then you think. It actually isn't even that sticky on back so if you get a bubble its really easy to peel back and start over.

My only complaint is that with polarized sunglasses, its a little harder to read, but still very usable.

LoL, funny how I caught this thread. I just ordered one from ebay and received it yesterday. I thought it would be useful since my gf has fingernails, so I got one for the hell of it. I mean why not? $10 won't kill ya to protect a $7000 unit. Anyways, I think its a great investment, I put it on the nav with no bubbles and I don't even notice the protector on the screen. Works perfectly! A+ imo

Navi = Touch screen, fingers are applied on the screen on a daily basis when operating the vehicle.
Speedo, Odo = Very rare that someone touches.

I would want one. I have one on my portable NAV and it cuts down a lot on the finger prints. The PDA vinyl doesnt seem to attract or show as much finger prints as the screeen itself.

I also bought one from ebay too for like $14.48 with shipping, it works great! It is easy to put on, small bubbles not a problem as long as there are no dust, those small bubbles will slowing disapper after a day or so throw the thin film.

I agree with Ken that it should be unlikely to scratch since you don't toss it around your bag or your pocket with keys like you would with your PDA or mobile phone. In my experience, protectors actually show finger prints more. Plus, I have a hard time seeing the nav screen with polarized sunglasses anyway so I would not want to make it worse.

Default screen protector

I use a Panasonic Toughbook laptop for my work with a touchscreen. Panasonic states that a stylus should be used for input and using fingers to touch the screen can cause smearing and damage from oils and dirt deposited on the touchscreen. I don't know how different the material is from the Lexus nav screen, but I have seen one of my co-worker's laptop who routinely uses his fingers to enter info and it really looks like crap. I can see the smearing on my nav screen too, so I do think I will get the screen protector. I do use a microfiber cloth to keep my laptop screen clean. It does do a good job cleaning the smudges that still get on the screen.

so see i can agree to this, if you see the posibility of damage to your nav screen, you would be remiss not to protect it. if you have a woman's fingernail that appears to be causing that kind of damage or the potential day in and day out, go ahead and apply the film, no doubt.

i touch the buttons on my nav screen everyday and i can tell you from a previous car that casual and careful use like that will not damage the screen. therefore unless you really see a need for this, it's not entirely necessary. i think screens back from the 80s might be problematic but today they've figured out how to minimize this.

for under $20, it's a no brainer for most but to compare this to an ipod where a screen protector is a must because the exposure to damage is 100 times more....it's hard to say if lexus should have provided since that would be sorta like an admission.

those who have their screen protectors on, won't you post a pic pls so we can see that it really don't look hideous, like when you go into someone home and they have plastic on their furniture lol.

I use screen protectors from http://www.shieldzone.com/

There are great and reasonably priced. I have a screens from them for my Garmin Nuvi 350, Garmin 60cs, PSP, and a custom ordered on for my Sony DSC-H2. I'll be ordering one for my Nav unit once I get my IS350 in.

While the chances of getting your Nav scratched are slim, I'm not taking that chance. No telling when you might have somebody in your car that doesn't love your car as much as you do.
