This was one of the things that really irritated me when I got my IS. I really wanted a car with no holes drilled since my last car (04 G35) had dealer drilled holes that were uneven. If you have plates and want to take them off you can take it to a body shop when you repaint your bumper (say for rock chips, cracks), or you can buy these bumperplugs from [link]www.bumperplugs.com[/link]. Kinda expensive for tiny pieces of plastic but it works. I decided to keep the front plates because my car has 4 holes for some reason , anybody else have 4?

My car had the front pate, but i took it off and had the holes filled. if i get a ticket ill just stick it back on with double sided tape, get it signed off, and pull the damn thing off again.

Front plates are required here in CA but I'm not going to put them on. It takes away TOO much from the looks of the car and a fix-it ticket fine is not all that much.

Got pulled over in the Supra on labor day a few years back for no front plate while sitting at a stoplight of all places. Had all the front plate junk removed when I had the car in the shop and showed him I had no way to mount the plate even though I kept it in the front window. He was a new cop in town notorious for busting people for front plate, a carryover from being a state trooper and using the front plate to get a good radar read.

I got a full on $60 equipment ticket and paid it. Got it since the plate was not actually mounted and violated the law requiring it to be between 12 and 18 inches from the ground. Stupid law. EEEEeevil.

Yes, the cost of the license plates would go down 50%, but the cops wouldn't be able to give out as many tickets. Everytime a cop sits at a stop light (well, they are trained to do this) he runs every plate he can see through his computer to see what he can find. I think this is a crock, but hey, cops don't have to follow the laws anyways.....

Not really. (1) most are made in prisons, so it's virtually free labor, (2) it costs more to make the first of anything (setup, etc), so maybe you'd save 30-40%.
