Default Question on rolling the rear fender

I am trying to purchase a set of 19 x 8.5 and 19 x 9.5 wheels with +36 offset around. The shop told me that I would probably need to roll the rear fender. I do not really know what rolling a fender is and if it is a simple mod or something that can go bad. so is this something that I should avoid? where do they do this ? any inputs would be appreicated.

the rear tire size would need to be taken into account, not wheel offset/width alone, what sizes are you getting

Rolling a fender is the process of actually pulling the metal which is the rear fender away from the tire. If it's done right, it can look fine, but it's easy to screw up and make a big mess of otherwise perfect bodywork.

Personally, I think if you need to roll the fenders on a street car, you're running too much wheel/rubber. There's just no point outside of a track.

265/30/19 is a bit off from stock overall diameter -3% error, 265/35 is closer 1% error. 275/35 and 275/30 has a small speedo error +/- 2% respectively

Usually people seem to have higher offsets on the rears. Im trying to make that aftermarket wheel setup thread but few are contributing. Would be useful in times like this

official 2IS mod thread: look at the guys offsets for his black Volk SF challenges and you can see how his wheels look, his rears are +40 and they look good with 275/30/19

Front - Volk SF Challenge Diamond Black 19x8.5 +34mm - Toyo T1R 235/35/19
Rear - Volk SF Challenge Diamond Black 19x9.5 +40mm - Toyo T1R 275/30/19

wow that fitment is perfect, but my problem is that the shop only has one set of these wheels in that one offset.

4TehNyugen do you think 36+ offset with the tire size that you are recommending woudl be okay?
thanks

i dont want to be viewed as an expert i dont have an IS yet I used the tire calculator to check how the new diameter will be so you get minimal speedo error (if the rear wheels are used in the speed calculation)

This is mostly a judgement from my gut and looking at the pics. So since you want +36 the rear wheel will stick out 4mm more than the guy above, but hes running 275/30 which are wider than what you had in mind. If you can get 265/35/19 tires it will be closer to stock diameter, getting a smaller diameter will make you look like you have more wheel gap. Your wheel will stick out +4mm outward but you have a smaller width to counteract the tire getting closer to the fender. My guess is overall it would look pretty similar to his. But dont kick my *** if something happens, this is just a guess. If you dont plan on dropping im guessing again your wheelgap will look similar to below, and you have enough clearance

once you mount the tires and mount the wheels i wouldnt consider the wheels new anymore, maybe some shops will think this way also, rubbing occurs during when the shock/struts are absorbing a bump which means youre on the road, wouldnt be new anymore

I think you should be fine with these. The IS350 at SEMA last year was running on Volk GT-7 20x9.5 +37 with 275/30/20. They claim there is no rubbing. The size you're going with is actually smaller than the one on the SEMA IS350.

Since you're buying Volk wheels, why don't you call Mackin Industries? They're the distributor for Volk and they did the IS350 for SEMA.
