How to: change your oil

Thats true. I loved doing oil changes on the S. Reach down flip the switch, and screw the filter off, replace and add oil. The oil problem was finding a pan shallow enough to fit under the car to find out when all the oil was drained.
On the IS it'll help by not having to deal with splattering oil when unscrewing the oil drain bolt. Plus less wear and tear on the oil drain pan itself by having to constantly bolt and unbolt it, torque to right specs etc... Even if I get lazy and take it in for a dealer oil change.
I'm planning on picking up some ramps so it'll make the whole process even easier. I just wish filter were in a more accessible location

I just changed my oil today at 10K miles. If you plan to do this yourself, you may want to have the longest breaker bar you have handy. When they did the first complimentary oil change done at the dealer, they put that oil filter housing on very tightly.

I had the same problem for my 10k oil change... but I gave up and put new oil and didn't replace the filter.

Let all the oil drain out and move onto the oil filter. I used a standard wrench to grab and turn the housing to remove the filter.
Put something under this area to catch the oil coming out, loosen it a fair ammount but don't remove it and push the outer metal piece up(the part that says Toyota), this will allow the majority of the oil to drain out before removing the filter housing.
Remove the old filter out of the housing.
Remove your new filter from the box, it has 2 gaskets and a plastic thing. Replace the larger gasket on the filter housing and place the new filter in.
Now screw the filter back on and tighten it down a bit with the wrench.
Find your oil plug and screw that back in and tighten it down.
Now open your hood and pour 6 quarts of your favorite oil in, heres mine.
Now check to make sure theres no leaks anywhere.
Place the bottom panel back on with the 3 bolts/screws. Check your oil on a level surface and add additional to be sure its full (manual states 6.6 quarts)
That should do it, if anyone else can shed some light on telling the car the oil has been changed that'd be great as we'd have a complete guide.

Have the odometer showing(not trip A or B); turn car off; hold down odometer/trip reset button; have your foot off the brake and press the ignition button twice; you will see dash marks appear where the odometer should be; keep holding the button until all dashes marks dissappear
