It'll be too fast for them to push a V8 out. I would assume they upgrade their 3.5 to maybe 350 hp before they change engine.

its going to be a performance trim IS to compete with the AMG and M series, not going to replace the 350 engine. 07 GS will get the 460 engine also

I think Lexus needs to give all their models three to four engine choices: a small V6, a big V6, a V8, and a hybrid version. If anything, we may see these choices with the IS first compared to the other sedans.

Who knows, by 2008, we may have the 250, 350, 460, and 450h...

I dont understand the thought process behind lexus putting a v8
in the IS, our cars already do 0-60 in the mid-5 second range
while getting decent gas mileage, who'd pay another $5,000 to $8,000
for the v8 model? Well im sure there are ppl out there that will but
not enough where they'd make a killing.. Besides all that,
they're are shortchanging us folks who thought we had the
top model IS's! lol

I would, you might as well ask the same question why do Audi S, MB AMG, and BMW M models exist, IS460 is the same reason why those exist

Im guessing hte price will be under 50k. They are reusing their engine from the flagship sedan not a proprietary engien like the M3 and M5 engines, it wont cost as much as those to produce. Under 50k is a heck of a lot cheaper than M models

I highly doubt they would try to cram a 4.6L V8 in the new IS. Why would they? The New IS is already too heavy. It would just add weight and upset the weight distribution, for more power.

Also Lexus is more about showcasing new tech...

They have a more suitable motor on the way, the GS's 450h. (3.5L hybrid)

If you add to it, a true Dual exhaust, the car would be overall awesome.

If they wanted this car to compete with the M3, I would think it would have a starting price of upper 40s. You have to consider that Lexus charges a lot for their hybrid system. The RX330 and the 400h have an 8K price difference.

I would guess the same for the an IS350 and an IS450H, if they were to give the IS450H the M/AMG treatment, you would have to add another 5K(over the cost of the sports package) for chasis stiffening and steering/suspension/brake tuning.

SO where are we...
36K for a base IS, 8K for the hybrid, 5K worth of tuning +4K sports package 53K/56K with Nav

More people may pay this price for a powerful hybrid vs a powerful V8.

No way. Why would they only put a V8 in and attempt to compete with Ms and AMGs? They will upgrade suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, exhaust, and body kit. Since a loaded 350 costs about 45k now, this new car will be upper 50's easy.

Ya I agree. Mercedes, BMW, Audi don't have engines this powerful in their "normal" small sports sedans, so they need to go crazy with the M/S/AMG versions. This engine is about as powerful as the current-gen M3 and probably slightly less than the S4. Anything more and you start to get into RS4 territory which is just totally insane. $80k or more for an A4-based sports car?

They could definitely work on the suspension, more aggressive bodywork, custom rims, etc. Are we sure that the performance version and the hybrid will be different? The RX400h is kind of both...

uh because the new M3 and AMG cars have V8s and its quite convenient to put in the LS460 V8 which makes excellent power and torque for a 4.6. Why do people compare loaded, always start at the base, anything is expensive when its loaded. Adding a 10k premium to a base IS is very realistic. BMW charges about 15k premiums to get to the M model. An IS460 will be far cheaper to produce than an M3 because of the engine that just gets trickled down from the flagship

I would assume that the 450H is more powerful. Thats the way it worked with the 330 vs the 400H.

The M series and the AMG series are about showcase. Toyotas newest Tech trend is Hybrids, I would thing putting a 350-400HP Hybrid in the IS, would be big news. Esp if they aim it at the M series(with extra tuning on the suspension/brakes and chasis).

Putting a V8 in the IS wont be huge news.
