I have a Verizon Treo650 and am been frustrated on not being able to get the phone connected to the CAR's Bluetooth. Even if I change the name of the device on the car, it always shows up as HandsFree. I have applied the Treo Updater from Palmone website however it still does not work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Go to the Bluetooth set up screen, tap Bluetooth and disable device name cache. It will make discovery a little slower, but it will get rid of the permanent Handsfree in your discovery process.
I have found changing the Device name in the car or the PIN in the car will cause a pairing failure. I am on unlocked firmware, but the SIM is still locked to AT&T/Cingular. If you press Menu /i from the default phone screen, you'll see your firmware and software versions. The latest firmware I have been able to access is 1.71 and the latest software for unlocked phones is Treo650-1.20-ENA.
Pairing is still dicey. I had to wait about 15 seconds after the phone said it was done to get the Bluetooth connection successful from the car. Once you have this, don't ever delete it unless you want to spend a few minutes in the car re-pairing the phone and car.
The Treo 650 leaves a lot to be desired in this application for sure.

First before driving yourself crazy update your Bluetooth version to the most recent one for your service provider with a download and hotsynch . Sometimes a hard restart will be necessary on your Treo but that is rare. If the Treo says that you are done and the IS does not confirm it on the Nav screen try making a call from the Treo and it just might connect magically. This means that you will need to go back to step one above because it will drop off at will until you get the latest Bluetooth version. The default name of the IS bluetooth is handsfree. This is not a problem unless you have others paired to your phone like another Lexus. Don't give up and you will enventually get it working, register the Lexus as a trusted device after pairing....Bhupi, where do you live? maybe someone on CL can help.

Hello Folks,
I work at a Lexus dealership in sales. In order to get the Treo 650 to pair, the previous posters are correct that you do have to put the "handsfree" into "trusted device". There is ONE MORE STEP that is often overlooked.
You MUST make a phone call right after you pair it with the car. At that point, the NAV screen will show that "bluetooth connection successful"
That's when you're done!
Hope this helps a bit.
Homer
Also, take a look at the Lexus support for different carriers and phones:
