Explain the whole key situation to me...
Im looking at purchasing an IS250 and am a little confused about how the key works.
I know if I have the key in my pocket, I can just walk up and open the drivers side door. How does it work in the following cases:
1) I walk up to drivers side door and a passenger walks up to the passenger door. Do both doors get unlocked?
2) I walk up to just the passenger side door. Does it get unlocked?
3) I close the doors and walk away from the car. Do all the doors get locked?
4) How would an aftermarket (or dealer) installed alarm change things?

A lot of those settings can be changed. If you walk up to the car with a key, the car will know which door you walked up to by proximity. And the car will know which door you are attempting to open by physical touch on the door handle.
The way my particular car works, the way I have it set is if I walk up to my locked driver's door with the key in my pocket and I touch the door handle, only the driver's door will unlock. The other three doors remain locked. On the other hand, if I walk up to the passenger door and touch the handle, all four doors will unlock.
Doors do not lock automatically on this car. You have to physically lock them with the remote or by touching the lock button on the external handle.

1) You to just press unlock on the remote
OR
2) Let them hold onto the key and when they pull the handle on the passenger door all doors will open.

This is not one of the settings that can only be changed by your dealer. You can change it yourself, and it's really easy. Here are the instructions. Personally, I like to have all the doors unlock when I touch the handle... That way, if I am with other people, they don't have to wait until I get the door open and press the "unlock" button on the door... And I don't have to take the key out of my pocket either.

so that is for the customizable door locks, is there a full printout of how to change ALL the customizable options... (ie. door lock on gear/speed , dome light timeout, trunk release delay etc etc - basically all the customizable options in the manual)
the manual states they need to be "configured at the dealership by special equipment" but i'm sure that's BS
thanks in advance
