Default Body Shop work

So a body shop uses a metal solder to fill the post holes, sands, then repaints the entire trunk?

How do you get the enough matching paint/clear coat to ensure a proper finish? Probably has to be a Lexus dealership recommended shop huh?

This could turn out to be a $500 or so job...hmmm...

LOL. that dont sound to bad when the colored badges are 325.00. LOL did you see the other post.

But 500.00 for shaving the holes and repainting a trunk on this brand new car is not going to be a good price. IM sure its goign to be much more then that. I personally wont be the first to do it. No holes i would have removed them. Now i might look into removeing and painting. Unless the price is cheaper then 500 to remove the holes.

Default I agree

May have to bite the bullet on this one and keep em on, unless a guy could figure out how to paint the letters while they're actually still attached...this might work if you've got black or SGM, and a bunch of artistic talent, and paint that would work on chrome, and a day to let sit and dry in a garage...whew!

You can take the badges of and paint it and then put them back on. Others on this board have already done this. I don't think you need to keep them on to paint them. Unless I am not understanding your post.

had debated on doing this, and it's a very delicate process as to not break the lettering, as these are fragile and can crack easily. Think he had sucess in doing part of it, but don't remember what adhesive (maybe a 3M tape?) he used to reglue them in place. He used spray paint, and did 2 coats and allowed them to dry for a couple of days.

The unknown will be how this holds up over time in all kind of tough weather.

Well said, was thinking the same thing would hate to paint them and then have the paint not hold up .

Default removing emblems?

i was wondering, when you remove the rear emblems on the is350, i know that there are a couple of holes that go through the trunk. are there any sort of plugs on the other side of the trunk that the emblem "inserts" into? like, do i have to take that carpet covering thats lines the inside of the trunk in order to remove & reinstall my emblems?
thanks
chris

Just did this over the weekend- dont care for all the chrome on the tail of the car. Pulled the badges off and removed the excess adhesive by rolling off with thumb. then used polishing compound to remove what was left. There are 2 holes on either side of the trunk lid. Thought about painting the badges black- PITA. So I took the badges to the nearest vinyl sign maker and had black vinyl copies made of the badges (car is SGM) laid the new vinyl over where the old badges were, covering the holes. From a distance you can't see, but up close you can barely make out the "Lexus" and "is350"- nice and stealth
