Default My poor baby

My poor IS350 has scratches in the rear bumper that my lovely dealer provided at no charge. They are too deep to just buff out like the scratches in the clear coat. Any ideas, will I have to repain the bumper?

How long have you had the car? If you brought it to their attention when you got it, they should fix it. If you have had it any length of time, they will almost certainly deny it. Same thing happened to me when I bought my 4Runner - one of the automatic door locks didn't work when I bought it (on a weekend). So when I picked it up after repair, I noticed alot of scratches on the door. I told them they scratched my door and the guy immediately said he noticed them when I brought the car in. Fortunately, they waxed out.

So far my dealer has gone out of their way to kiss my b*tt. I'd press to see what they can do......

I don't know about your service depts, but mine does a walk around noting any body/paint issues and marks them down BEFORE serivce. You sign to acknowledge, and then there is no dispute.

In the 5 years I've owned lexus cars they have repaired every scratch or damage that they have caused. Take it to them.

Yep mine does the same. If they scratch it, they fix it at no cost to me.

Well, I had noticed it when I got home last weekend. (took me a while to post here). I mailed a letter of complaint to my dealer - mainly because I can never get through to them on the phone without leaving messages. Most of the time my messages are not returned.

I still have not heard back from them so I am hoping this coming week they call me about it.

No, the dealer here doesn't do a walk around to check the car. They really should

As the consumer, you should insist on it. I always do them at the service dept and car rental agencies. And never sign your post service paperwork until you've inspected your vehicle.

Got the car back today, they painted the scratch and it still is visible. What do you think I should do?

Take it back and tell them its not good enough. They need to repaint your whole bumper until you are satisfied

If the scratch was deep enough that you could feel it with your fingernail, the only way to get an undetectable repair would be to have a body shop sand and respray the bumper.

Unless the scratch looked really bad, I'm not sure I'd push for that - both because a body shop paint job is inferior to the factory one, and because a repainted bumper will lower the resale value of the car.

Hmm, interesting points. It isn't terrible, it does look better than a white scratch as they did paint it to the color. Maybe I will ask somebody else to look at the bumper and see if they notice it easily.

I ended up calling lexus corporate and simply filing a complaint. I guess I am just a little pissed that my car has 2300 miles on it and they scratched up the bumper. Both our RX300 and RX330 didn't have damage from the dealer. Hopefully it won't happen again.
