They're only illegal if they catch you with it

So your car didn't come with a manual? You should talk to the dealer and get one.

If you are posting up because you left your manual in your car or at home, then that is just being lazy.

I have a buddy that is going through a similar situation in VA- he was on his way back to school in NC from CT. As for me, in North Carolina, I was running late for my hockey game so I thought i would make up for time by driving a little faster. I honestly did not realize that I was going as fast as I was (and wouldnt have gone that fast and would have slowed down if I realized it). I got clocked going 90 in a 65. I think the cop cut me a break (or simply forgot) by not giving me a reckless driving ticket in addition to the speeding ticket. I got a lawyer that is trying to help me through this, but potentially I could get my license suspended. Thought I would share my story.

Even with a hidden installation you still run a big risk: cop might have a box called a "Spectre II RDD"or "Spectre III" which can detect pretty much any radar detector out there, even those that were designed to be immune from the earlier generations (VG2, Scpectre I) of radar detector detectors.

They might, might I've never come across a cop in VA actually trying to find people using radar. Plus, they can only confiscate the unit. It's not like you're going to serve jail time or anything.

That's true. I think only a few states have completely outlawed the use of them. I know in WI they're illegal and in IL you can't use one if you're driving a commercial vehicle (trucks, work vans etc). The only thing getting caught with a radar detector does is pretty much guarentees you getting a ticket and having 0 chance of getting out of it.

I did some shopping with them and I noticed that a lot of the higher end radar detectors cost as much as 2 tickets plus insurance premium differences

I got pulled over doing 140 in a 65 about 2 years ago..... Talked my way out of going to jail and only got a speeding ticket. Did I mention it took him 12 miles to catch me.... I didn't see him coming after me or he wouldn't have caught me. I took the class and the ticket was ony two hundred something.

I'm curious, what exactly did he say to you when he pulled you over, and more importantly, what did you say to him-- gee officer, I thought I was only doing 120...and what took you so long anyway.?

Don't get too cocky. What's that saying? "No matter how fast your car is, you can't outrun a Motorola."
