BTW, the AVG MPG can be reset by holding down the display button for 3-4 seconds. I've done this when I wanted to check the MPG on a stretch of open interstate road.

My IS had 14 miles on it. I did not custom order it, it was ordered by the dealer to be put on the lot, but I signed the papers to buy it 3 weeks before it arrived at the dealer. It was driven off the delivery truck in to the garage for dealer prep and a wash. It was then driven about 20 yards to a customer garage bay that the dealer uses to "introduce" every newly bought Lexus' to its buyer. I drove it out of that bay.

My previous vehicle I drove off of the showroom floor with 7 miles on the ODO.

Years ago when I picked up a new 98 Honda Accord Coupe EX-V6, it had 0.9 tenths of a mile on it. When I picked up my current 06 GX470, it had 3.0 miles on it. So I doubt anyone took a test ride in it. I consider any so called new vehicle with more than 10 miles on it as a used vehicle.

I think most dealers require a test drive as part of their checklist during the prep process to make sure nothing is falling off the car etc. When we got our Benz, it had 22 miles on it and the sales manager said that the service dept. skimped on the test drive because they are supposed to put on at least 25. My RX had about 16 when I special ordered it in 98 and our MDX had about 20 (also special order).

I agree the MPG average is not an indicator due to prolonged idle periods.

Now, could he be lying to account for a run to the grocery store in it? I guess he could but with 100s of cars on their lots, including 2-3 year old used cars and with spankin new MBs under each of the sales managers as "demos" I doubt they would need to.

I assume those who pick up with 6-7 miles on them are from dealers who do not test the car before delivery because 6-7 is what cars end up with during their transport process.

I got 10 miles when I took delivery of my car. And avg. gas mileage was at around 14 at the time, now after 200 miles, its about 20... Hope it keeps going up.

Our IS350 had 14 miles on it when we picked it up. We took it for a test drive, then brought it home to Va, 165 miles.
we went to charlotte NC this weekend and had a clear bra put on. There and back it averaged 29 miles per gallon. Still doing the break in , so we kept it below 60. Which was very hard to do. It wants to run, and it does it so effortlessly ! we had fun driving the car to and from Charlotte, it now has 467 miles, give or take a few. It is such a nice car, it makes you smile when you drive it !

7 miles on her at delivery, 11 miles, TCS off and burning the tires out of the lot. 15 miles, hit 100 on accident on the freeway. 300 miles, new rear tires. Current mileage, ~700ish and needs 3rd set of rear tires. Oh yea, been to the drag strip twice already.
