Default How get a good feeling if your new car has been driven poorly

Hi Guys,

I just realized this the other day. It is an indicator but I'm sure people will argue not a certainty on how your 2IS was driven before you bought it. Here goes.

The IS has an Avg MPG on the car. This is not the tank avg but the lifetime of the car avg. When I bought mine it said 22 MPG with 18 miles on it and never test droven. Right now I am getting around 24 mpg per a tank and have 1000 miles. This is with normal driving (no super hard acceleration and I don't really hit above 4000 rpms yet) I'm a bit over cautious on the break in.

So if you are buying a car and the avg mpg says something like 14- 18 I would say previous people have driven the car with a rather big lead foot. Just my two cents but I belive for those that do not want a hard accelerated car. ( turning etc you can't really tell)

Doesn't necessarily work like that. I see salespeople start cars all the time and let them idle while they're telling customers about them. Guess what... that means 0mpg. Not to mention I'd rather have a car that was driven hard right off the lot than one that sat at idle for an hour but has no miles on it.

I was curious about this myself. How can you tell if the car has been test driven when you pick it up. no car can have 0 miles on it when you get it, but what would you say the average or 'acceptable' amount of mileage should be for a spankin new IS off the lot that is supposed to NOT be test driven because you ordered it?

i know when i got mine, some "OFFICIAL" paperwork showed that my car had been delivered with a certain amount of miles. i happened to remember that was the exact mileage from when i test drove the car a couple days before. not to mention, the plastic was on all the seats, and the cardboard was still on the carpet.

I just check the rear tires to make sure they weren't obviously smoked or abused.

Mine had 17 miles on it.

Since mine was the one of the first special orders recieved into Toyota HQ in December 2005, I can imagine that a few people test drove the car prior to handing me the keys. Honestly, I really don't mind.

In comparison, I special ordered my 2004 Solara two years ago, and it had 5 miles on it.

Mine had 15miles on it and was also a special order from Toyota HQ in Torrance. They said the extra miles came from the quality inspection performed here in the US.

Mine had 6 and the plastic on it, then i test drove it and put it 6 so a total of 12 when i picked it up 2 days later it had 14, two more extra miles, it was becasue they had to take to there service center across the street.. So i know know one drove it hard.
