You could always look for an IS250, to save some cash, but still have a great reliable car! Or, there are actually some used IS250/350s out there, that could save you a few more grand off sticker! I like BMWs, but don't trust them compared to a Lexus. If you DO go with BMW, make sure you buy it from a dealer and it has the certified 100k mile warranty on it!

im not too keen on the IS250, while it will carry the looks of the 350, on paper, it seems underpowered and not significantly quicker than my 4cyl accord.

Have you considered a lease? That may be able to get you into an affordable payment on the 350, but if you put a lot of miles on your car, that wouldn't be the way to go. Heck, you're young, maybe just keep the accord for a while and wait for the upcoming IS350 coupe!
