Default Crazy insurance quote disparity!

I called State Farm today and they quoted me $1850 /6 months for an IS-250. About 70 bucks more for the 350. I am 28 and have never gotten a pt or accident in my life.

So I call Geico and they offer me 550 /6months if i insure with my beater which would be another 290 /6months.

All-State quoted me about 150 higher than Geico. What is going on here? I kept asking State Farm why it was so high when I had a clean record and they just said Lexus's are that expensive and I am under 30. A few hundred difference I can understand but thats over a grand.

A friend of mine wanted to get a IS350 so he called his insurance to get a quote, and he got one alright. $860 a month!!!! That's right per month!! He's also 23 but has a really bad driving record. So needless to say, he won't be getting the IS.

$550 for 6 months is not bad however. My 350 is on order. I called my insurance company for a ballpark figure of what kind of increase I would be looking at. Basically, its now $515/6 months, will rise to $670/6 months. I'm 41 yo, drive a 97' Z28 Camaro with the 350 LT1 engine. Haven't had any wrecks in at least 15 years. I have had a couple of tickets however. This insurance quote is with a $500 deductable.

Rates will vary widely from company to company. It's based on a variety of stuff:

-Your age, sex, marital status
-driving history
-make/model of vehicle
-zip code
-credit score
-other stuff I can't think of

Different companies may put more/less weight on different factors. Statefarm might be giving you a high quote because you have a Lexus, while some other company may be giving you a lower quote for your clean record.

Allstate seemed to have good rates on the IS. I've also seen good quotes from Ameriprise (American Express offered through Costco).

I think it depends on what package the insurance cover...
I'm under 21...using American Family...$1400/6 months (IS350)...
damn expensive>.<
My friend have a Toyota 4 Runner...younger than me also American Family...$75 per month =.="
and I'm already under my parents name=.=...

I've been told by a local State Farm agent and GEICO, over the phone, that the reason why the huge differences in premiums for some age groups and some markets on the IS is due to the 1IS claim and accident records.

Unfortunately, it seems that claims and losses from IS'es from previous historical data shows the IS to be extremely expensive to insure. Or so I have been told. They're applying the same formula to 2IS drivers and vehicles.

Cheers,
Kermee

My insurance also went up by $70/month with the IS250 AWD coming from an RX330. I have a clean insurance record and been with State Farm for 15 years. Only explanation I got was that the IS more expensive to insure.

The high quote may have been because the agent gave you a misquote. When I got my IS250 in December, my agent wrote my policy up as a Lexus SUV because he did not know what the IS was. The premium did not go up as much as I origionally thought it would, so I wrote the check without question before the agent finalized all the paperwork. When I got the paperwork I noticed under "vehicle type" it said LUX SUV. When I got it all straightened out my 6 mo. premium went down considerably.

Your quote is terrible, I was quoted $1076 / 6 months by State Farm. I'm 26, Clean Driving Record, Single, Southern Calfiornia.

You live in a bad area or something?

I find that strange because State Farm quoted me $703 for the IS250 and $745 for the IS350, and I did have 1 accident several years ago.

Wow, at that rate, he's going to have to settle for a skateboard
